carburator ices over

everytime i go steadily faster then 80km/h the car starts givin a litle rock back and forth then its like the more gas i give it the worse it gets "

in my car somebody told me that it was my carburator icing over cuz aparantely the heater has to pass near it or something to prevent it?? so i had the brilliant idea to check and see if this happens when my heater is set to hot instead of cold wich it has been set at lately as this problem has been plaging me anyways i realized that if my car is warm enough to give some heat out of the heater and is set to hot not cold (blue) i can get her to go as fast as i want with no problems

am i crazy or is it that when i put the heat to hot it somehow goes thru some pipe somewere in the fuel system to prevent gas from freezing in the carburator[ i think??] and if so why doesnt it do that bull shit when the heater is on cold

jimmy, Carburetor icing has nothing to do with your heater, nor does the heater heat the carburetor. The heated air system consists of a heat stove, which looks like a metal shield over the exhaust manifold with a hole in the top; a pipe which runs from the heat stove to the air cleaner snorkel, could be solid metal or a metal flex tube; and a valve (above a big hole) on the air cleaner snorkel. The whole system works automatically and has no driver inputs. It's not designed to prevent the gas from freezing, it prevents ice from forming in the carburetor and causing it to go extremely rich. Your symptoms warranted looking at it. As for your heater setting causing it to run poorly...well, if you can make it run poorly every time you move the temperature slide or dial to cold, you know where to start looking for the problem. The heater has NOTHING to do with the carb. Whoever told you that is very full of brown bubbles.

lol your probably right and i guess now i know why the heat sheild off the exhuast manifold connects to the air intake before the air filter
