Well, I gone an' dun it. Cut off the sideskirts of the Cobra:

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/238578tony_1.jpg

I then removed the sideskirts off the "lowrider" Mustang convertable and attached them to the Cobra:

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/238578tony_2-med.jpg

The result is a '90 GT hatchback with a Cobra insert on the front bumper:

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/238578tony_4-med.jpg

Still needs some work to smooth it out, I'm working on it...slowly...

I also worked on the rollcage, so it now has 8 points, and finished the seatbelts:

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/238578tony_7-med.jpg

Battery delete (It looks much much better now):

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/238578tony_8-med.jpg

Scratchbuilt Igloo intercooler (unfinished):

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/238578tony_9.jpg

Turbo setup (I'll probably do another one, this one annoys me):

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/238578tony_10.jpg

That's all I have for now.

I'm actually building this model for a friend to replicate his car. It now has a 92mm Turbo, but when I started building the model it had an 76mm. It's run 9.6's at 150mph in the 1/4. He's also gotten his groceries in it. When I get more of the engine done, I'll post up pics of my 1:24 work vs. his 1:1 work.

Will69Camaro is building the same guy a replica of his '94 TT Supra. What color is the turbo Mustang you have a vid of?

its blue from canada and he runs mid 8's at 170+ mph and on 10.5 in wide street slicks :)

I stole the wheels of a Motorworks '69 Camaro kit. They strongly resemble Bogart wheels, minus the slots the 1:1car's wheels have. I'll put up pictures of the wheels with the next progress pics.

Made some strides on this build in the past week. Got the paint done, headlights, windows, and parachute...still feels like baby steps, but it's getting closer to being done!

I want to apologize now for the pad photo quality, it's been a rough week. Lots of tests. I got in a hurry and used autofocus, it just doesn't work.

wow looks great so far. What kit is this by the way? The ones i've seen don't have true headlights/tail lights and are just chrome pieces, so I avoided those. But this one has actual clear lights and tails :)

It's an older kit, the Revell '93 Cobra in a standalone box. I know they don't sell this kit on its own anymore, the owner of the real car had it ib his closet, but they do have it in a Cobra 3-pack. Revell also has a "Lowrider" Mustang convertible in this body style, which is where I got the sideskirts.

Without a digital camera, I go through a lot of trouble (and more than a few $$) to post up progress pics for you guys to see. A little more feedback would be nice!

Really dig the sratched (? at least, heavily detailed) parachute. Looks spot on. In fact, the whole thing does. Paintwork looks excellent, as well.

build a honda they`ll be all over you

Comments like this drive me up the wall. Replace "Honda" with "Skyline" and say that and I will refuse to ever respond to the thread. Why? Because there are tons of reasons why people do or do not respond to threads. Unfortunately, one is a preference for Nissans and Hondas but if you look around, that's not a rule by any means. Most builders here build many different types of models and appreciate even more. In fact, you'll see a lot of people that only post replies in non-Honda threads. Seems fair? Another reason people may not post is that they can't post anything meaningful - I fall into this category. I am often not informed enough on a certain kit or a certain prototype to be able to lend any sort of insightful comment, so I refrain. Stock, repetitive "Good work" posts tend to lose their meaning, in my opinion, so unless I can say "Good work, I like the (specific aspect of the model)" I won't say anything. I try, though, to comment on everything good I see and pick something that I specifically like and can comment on. On cars like this, though, it is difficult, as they are far out of my expertise. There are also a lot of people that only post in their friend's threads, so you'll see a handful of posters with a gazillion responses to a picture of an unpainted engine block, but so be it. And a lot of times I am sure people want to cruise AF and just read and look and don't feel like posting. This happens to me a lot, but people look and people appreciate. Not everyone is vocal about it.

Sorry, 99civichic, I understand how it can suck to go through a lot of trouble to get not a lot of responses, and your models are very good; I reply to them as much as I can because I enjoy them and want to see more. But understand, lack of comments does not equal lack of appreciation, just lazy readers. Your models indeed rock the casbah. And I'm not fussing about your comment, it's fine. Others just like to saddle the blame on peoples' "closed mindedness" which to me, is the pot calling the kettle black.

[/hijacking thread]

There was a fox body that would come out and autocross with my region of SCCA and it would sometimes win fastest time of the day, and would always win SM class, which was very impressive in itself. Have to admit, though, that it was more Steeda than Ford and the Hoosier slicks he ran were stickier than my hands after eating a mango. And he was a fantastic driver. Still, never thought a Mustang could run so hard and I was duly impressed. He and his car changed my opinion of Mustangs, and I had to embarassedly admit I was wrong after seeing his times.

Thanks Willimo. I think your comments are dead on. I will only post comments on threads that I aither admire the build quality, admire the subject execution or am intrigued by the work of the builder...anotherword, something that grabs my fancy.

BTW - this Mustang is very nice ;)

Could we have a pic of the camaro kit you "burrowed" the wheels from please? :)

This is Will69camaro:

Yes she is a girl, shes in the same room as i right now. I will try and scan in the face of the box the wheels are from. It's a motorworks (revell for walmart brand) 1/24 camaro and those are the front wheels off of it. Give me a few minutes and i'll try to get the pic of the box up.

William

This is me:

The parachute is a peice of black nylon stocking superglued to a peice of styrene and stuffed with cotton, then sewn together. The tail is $1/yard fabric that I used to make a convertible top for a '99 Cobra I built a while back, sewn around some embroidery thread. I wish I could get my camera to cooperate with me so you could see the detail in this thing. The parachute trigger is some heavy black beading wire spraypainted red, stripped at the tip to reveal the actual firing mechanism, and then sewn onto the parachute to simulate how the thing actually works.

On a race parachute like this one, there is a heavy wire that runs from the chute to the driver. It is attatched to a handle that, when the driver pulls it, the wire is pulled inside its red casing. The wire goes through a loop on the chute, and when it's pulled, it comes out of the loop and there's nothing holding the spring loaded chute in place anymore. It then unfurls, slowing the driver down. The tail is attatched to a mount that goes through the bumper and is welded to the frame of the car so you don't lose the bumper or any other parts from the force of the parachute (often 2 G's or more)

Here is the kit I pulled the wheels off:

http://img123.exs.cx/img123/4503/box3.th.jpg (http://img123.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img123&image=box3.jpg)

Like Will said, I only used the fronts, the rear wheels were a different style. I got the other two through Revell's broken parts, since I had to get a lost mirror anyways.

It's not like I need a ton of people saying "Great work!" I would like much more to answer a question or receive some constructive criticism than get empty (although often uplifting) compliment. I put these things up to share my experience and gain from others.

very nice work, the paint is looking good, as well as the chute like others have said. One question, why did you have to switch out the side skirts on this body with the ones from the low rider convertible kit? Keep up the good work, hows progress on the engine going?

I can do a how to when I get a digital camera, should be about two weeks...I traded my dad my XM system for his digital camera.

The car I'm replicating is a 1990 GT with a Cobra insert on the front bumper. The kit I had was a 1993 Cobra. The sideskirts on the actual car, the GT, say "MUSTANG GT" on the side and have "scoops" in front of the front and rear wheels. That's why I swapped the sideskirts; GT's had a factory bodykit that wasn't on the LX, 4-cylinder, or Cobra editions.

Gray

It's an older kit, he's had it in his closet for a few years now. I know you can get it in a 3-pack with two other Mustangs, someone on here got one not too long ago for a reasonable price. I've also seen these kits up on eBay and such. It was released before I got into models, so I didn't know they made it either until he gave it to me.
