Hello,
I have a 1996 Camry 4 cyl. 172,000 miles.....I had my timing belt replaced about a month ago. Prior to that, I had no problems with the battery or anything electrical...and thats with my audio system with two amps. After the timing belt replacement, I noticed a smell coming into the A/C vents...and I noticed over time that the positive post of the battery was turning black....burning. I had my mechanic re-check the grounds thinking it might be a source of severe voltage drop or too much charging. My mechanic put a new post on the battery and cleaned everything....and replaced the ground wires from the negative post. The problem didn't go away so he replaced my alternator with a new one saying it could be the voltage regulator. That was two days ago and I still smell burning......has anyone ever experienced this??? I don't know where to turn or what to say to my mechanic....

very odd problem..... You should ask some other mechanics about the problem to see what they think. A burning battery could be fatal. Don't drive the car until you get it fixed.
