Just purchased a new hyundai Elantra GT 5 door silver, with sunroof, car has 212 miles on it .
Already had to have front wiper blades replaced at signing and waiting for the rear blade to arrive at dealer to be replaced= they had no 20005 blades., But worst of all, on the way home from signing the deal, the CHECK Engine light came on ,back to the dealer tommorow, for repair, checked fuel cap it was loose but after tightning it light still is on?it was raining out maybe condensation got in cap? Who knows All I do know this is the first NEW car we have owned that the CHECK ENGINE light has come on with only 212 miles on it. Not a very good start for what We thought was A really nice car.

I could be wrong, but on certain vehicles you need to make sure that the gas filler door is closed with 3 or more ticks. If not then the engine light comes on.

TS was right you have to click it 3 times, I had this problem when i first bought my accent, let the gas run down, when you re-fill it it should go off but the next 1/2 tank

The problem we are hoping was the dealership gave us a tank of gas when we purchased the car ,couple days a go, And whoever filled it up did not turn the cap closed at all it was just barely turned.
Anywho it goes to the dealer today to run a computer check ,since the light is still on after tightning it correctly = 3 clicks, Service department said they will have to clear the code to get the check engine light to go off. I hope it was the gas cap, causing the light? will update this eve. mike. :disappoin

All is well in ELANTRA land ,The check engine light was due to gas cap, not being tight, My local dealership=36 miles 1 way re-set the code..

[So far we still really like the elantra], ps: still waiting on the rear wiper blade, they forgot to order it , but we did get the front ones replaced oh well.

I also just purchased a new hyundai Elantra (2004-2005). Mine is a 4 door with sunroof and all optional equipment (1.6lt because the 2.0lt has 40% TAX !;!; so it costs about 20500 Euros or 26,500 US dollars).

I replaced the front wipers with new ones for 10 Euros. The salesman said the new ones are excellent quality, they seem to be very good.

I also had the check engine light turned on. The mechanic send it was the "lamda sensor", it momentarily measured something wrong, but the light won't go off unless it is explicitly cleared.
Anyway he said, the lamda sensor has to do with the gas, and that it is a bit sensitive. Well i used a gas station i don't usually use (i only put 8 litres) and i remember i didn't tight the gas cap too much in order to avoid those click sounds.
I am not sure what caused i 'll be monitoring it.

I really like this car, it handles well and ride is comfortable, but i am not planning on keeping those hankook tires for too long (only a year or so). Sound insulation is just good but it doesn't make knocking noises like my brother new Mazda 6, which has very good sound insulation but parts inside the cabin do noises (not creaks) on harse roads.
