Ok guys, which turbo would be the better buy, The APG Full Garrett T3/T4 60-1 trim or the FP Green? This would be on my car, daily driver, street racer during the weekend & track on occasion. I was reading the dsmtuners forum and they seem to love both turbos, well, It's time to see which is better. Also, Gotta find out which is better so I can see If I need to cancel my APG 60-1 :). Things I want to consider are lag time, top end power, 1/4 time potential, Max WHP potentail and streetablilty. (remember, this car will be ran mostly on pump gas.)

Here are links to both

Also how's the FP-RED in a daily driver. http://linux.forcedperformance.net/merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=FP&Product_Code=NTDSMFPRED&Category_Code=DSM-Turbo

i'd go with the 60-1 and a 60 trim compressor wheel.. the FP-Green is nice but you would probably want to run a external wastegate and you will probably need a spacer to mount that to the manifold to the head so the turbo doesnt hit the water pipe. the garret setup is nice for the money and i think you will like it better also, expecially on pump gas!

FP-Red is a big no no for a daily driver, unless you really like lag!

My vote is going to have to go with the FP Green. Especially since you're concerned about lag and streetability. However, peoples' definitions of streetability concerning lag are all different; what do you consider too much in terms of spool-up time? I really like the FP Green, simply because it's FP, and they really know their shit when it comes to turbos! I'm not saying that AGP doesn't know their shit, but FP seems to really have a way with DSMs :) . In my opinion, the 60-1 is way too big for a predominantly street car (unless you went to a 2.3 stroker to help with spool-up), but like I said earlier it's all based on personal preference. Do some searching on dsmtuners.com about both turbos and I'm sure you'll find just about every answer to any questions you may have - LOTS of info on them. Good luck bud, and I know you'll have fun with either of the two turbos you choose :naughty:

you guys also got to think about the $$ involved here... the Green isnt cheap, the 60-1 kit is a pretty good price for what you get! wastegate, manifold, O2 housing and turbo. thats the only reason i said get it!

The red IS a 60-1. I don't think you want that on the street. If you don't mind the lag and plan on going big though, there might not be any reason against it. You are comparing a 50 trim and a 60-1 trim, AND a general garrett with a tuned garrett from FP.

Kind of like apples and oranges, so do you want a T3 manifold and a 50 or 60-1? Or a hybrid like FP?

I wouldt even bother cmparing a green to a 60-1. The green uses a 50 trim wheel, rated for 10 lbs/min less airflow. Its like comparing apples to hookers. The Red uses the 60-1 wheel on a TDO6H center, so that would at least be comparing two fruits. Not quite apples to apples though ;) Enough about food and hookers!

The green is a 50 trim, for which AGP also offers a kit. So compare the green to that, and the red to the 60-1. They will have 500 and 600 HP potential, repsectively. The 50 trim/green will spool around 3800-4000 on your average 2 liter. The red/60-1 will spool around 44-4500 depending on a few factors.

You have to also consider the exhaust side options. The red/green are both TDO6H tubine wheels (the latest I heard was that the green is no longer a tdo6, they are both 6h) and 7 cm housings unless you order an 8cm. Same housing used on 16g and up. The AGP kits have several options though. Most likely you will end up with a stage 3 wheel and a .63 housing. For the 60-1 I think the 82 housing is a better match but raises lag even a little more (~200 rpm). On the 50 trim the 63 will give great spool but I would like to try an 82 on it. It should still spool quickly (relatively small compressor wheel) but raise VE a bit and make it more efficient for pump gas use. In fact, popular rumor has it that the "Dre spec" 503 whp 50 trim just has a big ass hot side. ;)

Some other things to consider. The cast manifold should be more durable for daily driving than the tubular. Now, my friends and I havent had an AFP manifold crack, but we dont drive the mileage we used to either. Might be worth considering especially in cold climates (large temperare swings). On the positive side the SFP mani gives you the best possible place to mount the WG, venting all 4 runners, and at a good angle. ALso, parts for garret turbos are cheap and easy to find. Just look at the price difference between the red/green and straight garrets. Once you've laid down the cash for the kit, chewing up a wheel or toasting a thrust bearing doesnt break the bank. Changing housings is tits too.

In the end you cant go wrong either way. Both setups have proven themselves on various cars. It all depends on the type of setup you are going for. As far as lag goes, I can personally tolerate anything up to ~4500 rpm in lag. If you are below that rpm you're in the wrong gear anyway, unless you're just cruisng along ;)

I should also add that my 56 trim/TDO6H is still for sale, as is Chads AGP 60-1 kit. I think I already offered those to you earlier, but just in case you're looking to save a buck or two. ;)

Good luck with watever setup you go with. :)
