Ticking noise when cold

My 2001 GTP has a fairly loud ticking noise when it's first started. I thought at first it might be lifter noise, but it seems to stop when it's warmed up. Could it be an exhaust leak that stops when the engine and exhaust warm up? :screwy:

Chances are it is indeed lifter noise. You may have a lifter that is bleeding down more than the others or it could be dirty. Once the oil thins out a little bit it flows better and the lifter will pump up to normal and the noise goes away. An exhaust leak is not out of the question though as once the manifold warms up the noise will go away with expansion. Take a flash light and shine it around the manifolds and exhaust connections when the engine is cold, works better on cool days, you should be able to see the leak coming from the pipe if it is an exhaust leak. Good Luck!

You should also be able to see the leak from the color around the connection....light gray if not almost white.
