Well i was offered a turbo for $400 bucks from a stock eclipse, i was wondering what i would need to make it work for my 95 eagle talon esi, i have an automatic, i know i need an intercooler, but what else am i gonna need to do? and if u can leave some websites or prices or anything u think will be useful, i can prob get the turbo cheaper than what the guy offered, and how will i know the turbo works?
also do u think its even worth it? or do u think it will just add more weight to my car?

I don't know much about the actual setup of the Eagle Talon ESI, but I do know enought to probibly get you off into the right direction.
I am guessing that your Talon doesn't already have a turbo hooked up. So usually to hook up a turbo you need to reroute the exhaust system and change the intake system to handle the extra pressure of a turbo. I can tell you that to do this profesionally will cost you alot. Guessing in the area from $1,000 to $4,000.
Now I must also warn you that a turbo on a 7 year old car is not exactly the best idea. You will probibly run into alot of reliablity issues and break downs.
In my opinion you probibly should look for other ways of increasing horsepower than a turbo. :)

hey Towlie, build up your bottom end first. Actually, how many miles do you have? and do a Compression and Leak Down Test to assure your car has nothing wrong...
dude, also, post this in the Honda/Acura forum under N2O, Supercharges, and Turbo...those guys will help you out way more than anyone else can...

Besides what the other posts have said, you may need new injectors and fuel pump... I don't know how well the stock injectors/pump will cut it, you may run into detonation problems. Hmmm, I guess just turbo ready intake and exhaust including waistgate and such, you will probly want a good pod filter. You'll want to do some reading on your engine, to see what psi of boost it can handle, then find out howmuch boost the stock soliniod runs on that turbo if its to high or you just want to run more then a boost controler. A good BOV imho is a must so you don't get backspin and ruin your turbo. Also be sure your drivetrain can handle the extra horses :D I know I've left some stuff out so I'll let someone else fill that in, I can't think of it off hand.

HEY
your non turbo motor is a different motor than the stock eclipse all together. you would need a manifold that is specific to your motor, you would have to get one from say, hahn racecraft.
on top of that, you would need the intercooler and tubing, as well as upgrading your fuel system.
talk to a mitsu tuner like buschurracing or hahn to find out what you need...
but you would fo sho need the manifold, and hahn is the best source for it...

it's worth it only if you want to spend allllll the money...
or you could get a jdm turbo motor, and have some one put that in...
talk to buschur on that, they are inexpensive, like around 1200 bucks.
compared to all the shiet you have to do to make your non turbo a turbo, its gonna run you more than finding a turbo motor and all the assorted fun stuff in a junkyard, and it will be more reliable with a motor that was built for a turbo.
opinion... don't buy it unless you are ready to spend the 1200+ to get it to work right.

Yea I for one would not buy the turbo itself, you have no idea what it has been through. Yea the low price is attractive, but you may have to replace it 6 months down the road. As the above posts have said you should call a quality DSM tuner (Hahn, Buschur) on what you would need.
In my honest opinion, what I would do is talk to the above two tuners and tell themn what you have and see what they say you need to complete the thing. It may be better to just get a complete turbo kit that is made for your car, I'm sure that there is one out there. DSMs have been around long enough that someone has to have done a esi turbo.
So yea I would just go with a complete turbo kit if you can swing the dough. You will get a brand new turbo, and everything you need, no finding out that you need one little hose after a weekend trying to install the whole thing.

I dont think that you would have to build up the internals of the engine if you just planned to run the stock level of boost. Anything over the stock level and you may want some low compression pistons and lightweight forged rods. And trust me, a turbo is worth every penny. Yea you can do the i/h/e but it will just leave you wanting more, trust me, I know!

$400!?!?! That is a bit expensive for a stock Mitsubishi Eclipse turbo don't ya think? The T-25 Garrett turbo from the newer body styles shouldn't run more than $200 and the older generation 14b are usually about the same price and flow better than the T-25. It's my understanding that if you buy a non-turbo Eclipse/Talon it's usually less expensive just to trade your car in for a turbo model than to turbocharge it yourself. Hahn does make some very attractive packages though, i'm a big DSM fan and the turbo Eclipse/Talon's can handle over 400hp on stock internals. I bought my T-25 with 8,000 miles on it for $200 and I only paid that much because of the low mileage. Now if he's selling you a 16g or even a BIG 16g then $400 isn't unreasonable, but for a 13b,14b, or a T-25 that price is very steep.

What is the stock turbo on the newer GSXs, I imagine that it is the same turbo that is on the GST right. I also wonder how much boost they run off the showroom floor?

The stock turbo on Gs-x and gs-t is a 16g(small one) but it won't directly interchand with the first gen cars because of the placement of the outlet. 12 to 14 psi is normal for stock cars. the variances are due to mileage and wastegate manufacturing tolerances. Go find urself a wrecked turbo car...preferrably front wheel drive and pull the engine, tranny , intercooler and fuel system. Transfer everything over to ur car...it wll be much cheaper than doing it like all these other guys suggested. u will aalso get the insurance break offered by the car not being a turbo according to the vin number.. or just sell all ur crap and buy a first gen dsm and start from there... 11's are about 4,000 dollars away.

Those do NOT run 12-14PSI, try more like 9-10. My car runs 13PSI and I play around GSX Eclipse and TSi Talons. They aren't hard for me to beat. So you can't tell me they are running the same or more PSI than I am.
To answer Towlie, I would say no. Retrofitting cost too much and is a pain in the ass IMO. You would be much better off buying a GST, GSX, or TSi.

REALLY! 12-14 Stock. What is the horsepower and torque on those, cause I take them out all the time? Also, you can only take them up to about 20PSI on the stock internals?

you can take them up to about 23 psi on "stock" internals...factory parts that is..not a 150,000 mile short block. 195 hp and 215 torque for the first gens and 205 and 215 for the 95 on up . you only have 195 hp and 220 pounds of torque? haha thats laughable.. for about $3 you can increase boost to 15-17 on a completely stock eclipse and stomp all over ur lebaron. Face it they have MUCH more potential than ur car, sorry to say. But don't for get they also weigh a good 5-600 pounds more than ur car. go to www.roadraceengineering.com and check out their magazine articles section, there is a 93-94 eclipse SCC did an article on a coupla years ago, it runs 11's in the 1/4 tops out at 184mph and pulls well over a g on the skidpad.

Hehe, are you sure about that? My car weighs about 2900 pounds. That is not that heavy. Oh and I can go up to about 30PSI on the stock internals. I can quickly get my car running at about 500HP if I wanted to. There are build ups on how to at forwardmotioninc.com. The 2.2L was one of the best four cylinder engines ever built. I have about 150,000 miles and she still runs like new with 14PSI out of the turbo. You don't know to much about my car do you? I am going to mod the hell out of it once the turbo goes. Then I am just going to get a new engine, intercooler, and turbo. Then the fun will begin.
Ohh, and I have seen Chrysler mini-vans run 10s in the 1/4 mile with my engine and turbo in them. So just think if I modded my LeBaron the same. It weighs a hell of a lot less than a mini-van.

i wasn't making fun of him nor was i downgrading him only telling him the have more potential....and YES the 4g63 eclipse turbo engines can handle well over 300 horsepower and 23 psi of boost on a stock bottom end. meaning no crank work or work done to strengthen the main caps, or polished rods or aftermarket pistons. By the way, the hemi- was designed as a dragrace engine, never meant to be turbocharged, although it does handle the boost rather well (17 is the highest i've seen on a race/turbo hemi) By the way, the ports in the first gen 90-94 4g63 heads are bigger than a chevy bigblock rectangular port head. Bang for the buck, DSm's are the way to go....that's all
