Installing a CD player

Howdy,
Last week I bought myself a 2001 VW Golf, with 1 bad catch - no stereo ;) So I picked myself up an aftermarket CD/MP3 player (a cheapo "Centrum" brand) to install (it came recommended).
Well I removed the panel, found the ISO contacts, and hooked it up - and the CD player worked fine...
...problem is, I can't fit the darned thing into the compartment - I can get it 2/3's of the way in, but all of the wiring and contacts at the back of the unit are blocking the back of the area!
Yes, there is space in either corner, but I can't figure out a way to push all the cables down into the empty space once the unit is connected (the unit itself blocks entry as the connections are rather short).
I found some pictures of a guy who removed the "tray" section above the cd/radio space in order to get in behind the cd unit once it is connected, but mine doesn't seem to want to budge and I'm weary of using too much force!
Any bright ideas or wisdom that anyone can lend? ;)

dude buy a harnes! you dont know what that is.... ok you can get one from bestbuy futureshop or any other big places that install sterios... you also need a antana adaptor kit so get that too.. when you use harnes all you do is connect the wires from the sterio to this little kit that will plag in to your vws steio kit... you dont have to rip any wires from the car and you can take it out if you ever decide to sell the car!
good luck!

I've got the harness. And the antenna adaptor. They are hooked up fine!
But all those cables, etc. at the back of the unit are blocking the empty area - so that I can't push the unit all the way in to the back.
Seems like I need to reach around to the back of this area and guide the cables, etc. out of the way... I just don't know which panels are the easiest to remove temporarily to reach back there - everything seems pretty solid!

Problem solved!
For future reference if anyone else is wondering - the trick is to remove the holding compartment above the radio. It seems pretty solid at first, but if you give it a decent tug it unclips itself.
It's still a pretty tight fit behind the radio to fit all the cables and adaptors, but with a bit of patience it can be done ;)
