PAUL HARVEY...........NO FLU VACCINE

The major pharmaceutical companies in the US provided almost 90% of the nations flu vaccine at one time. They did this despite a very low profit margin for the product. Basically, they were doing us a favor. In the late 80's a man from North Carolina who had received the vaccine got the flu. The strain he caught was one of the strains in that years vaccine made by a US company. What did he do? He sued and he won. He was awarded almost $5 million! After that case was appealed and lost, most
US pharmaceutical companies stopped making the vaccine. The liability out weighed the profit margin. Since UK and Canadian laws prohibit such frivolous law suits UK and Canadian companies began selling the vaccine in the US. By the way...the lawyer that represented the man in the flu shot law suit was a young ambulance chaser by the name of John Edwards.
......and now you know the rest of the story.

Enough said!

I'll never take a flu vaccine ever again. I did growing up, but the last time i took it i had ended up with the worst flu i had ever gotten. To gross to describe the affects.

I new they had been litigated out of production here in the states but I did not know Edwards was the sleezball lawyer... I mean litigant in that case.

Eh I don't really believe that the flu shot is a good thing so in my opinion maybe the ambulance chaser did something good for once.

Blame your ridiculous sue-everyone legal system, not the laywer.

Or blame the person who brought the suit.

Or blame the judge who made the ruling.

But wait...none of them is standing against your preferred candidate, are they?

Why not say something positive about your own preferred choivce instead of popping in at the last minute to scatter crap on your opponents?

 Good grief - you throw mud all the time. Quit demanding others take the high road when you refuse to follow it yourself.

Some states are mis-managed, it's not a federal problem. My state stocked up and has plenty. I just love the "blame Bush" crowd.

I said that it was a good thing that he was an ambulance chaser :evillol:

You can't blame a president for not having a contingency supply, you can however blame him for the state of the healthcare system in general .

I think this shortage is fucking ridiculous. Why should old people be in line in front of children. Doesn't make sense to me. I just hope I don't bring it home to my kids from work because if I do I won't be a nice person.

Young people can recover from the flu like a common cold, but flu is life-threatening to older people. I know some of you think that older people should just die, but you're not old yet.

Well most of the old people who I know that can actually worry about dying from a flu dont really want to live much longer anyways.

You must know some pretty pathetic old people. Most of the old people I know love life.

Ohhh. As for Edwards....He is a lawer therfore he is a lowlife. :2cents:

No I know a lot of really nice old people who love to jog, kayak, and generally get as much out of life as they can. What I meant to say was that the old people who I do know that would actually worry about a flu doing real damage are so weak that they aren't happy with life anymore.

I find our healthcare system to be just fine. The problem arises when people expect it for free. Those people should get off their lazy asses, find jobs, and PAY their premiums. Note, I said YOU pay, don't expect me to pay for you..

Actually, Edwards wasn't the final "nail-in-the-coffin" for American vaccine manufacturers, it was Mrs. Clinton!
In 1995 congress passed the "Children's Vaccination Bill" which put price caps on the manufacturers and forced them to set-aside research money but did nothing to limit liability. Imagine the government telling you to raise your R&D costs while also telling you how much you can sell it for and who to, and not protecting you from any liability!!

If they didn't still think that buisness was still profitable for them then they would invest their time and money elsewhere. They aren't forced to make any vaccines.
