Recently started rattle & squeaking noise from my Cavalier 2001 2.4 engine when going over bumps or uneven road. Seems like it is coming from left side. My mechanic check it thgoughly but is unable to find the cause. Following has been done:

. Oil sprayed front & back end for lubrication
. Lubricated all bushed & studs including bushed the engine is sitting on
. Nothing visibly wrong with studs, brakes, front end, and suspension
. He feels there is nothing wrong with the steering system

Please help

Thanks everyone. The problem is still there.

The car was with my mechanic for four days. He re-checked every possible thing he could think of including struts. He told me to keep driving and hopefully the problems will disappear - I wonder how? He said not to bother going to the dealer as the dealer would go over all the things that he already checked out and I will end spending money.

DON'T KNOW WAHT TO DO - ANY MORE SUGGESTIONS

Hey i also have a 2001 cav. and I noticed when i got it back in may a squeaking noise on the left side too. You can definatly hear it when going over bumps. My dad is a mechanic and he couldn't find anything wrong either. So I either just try to ignore it or just leave the window rolled up. lol. I don't know what to do either!

try this... 2000+ strut mounts are known for being shitty... go to a parts store and buy a 95-99 front strut mount... go to this mechanic and have him put it on and torque everything to specifications... if your strut is blown you will also find that out while puttin the new mounts on.... if the strut is decompressed and dosn't come back up... you have got a blown strut or if you notice fluid leakin out around the rod.... i know what both feel like... you need to get someone to ride along with you that knows what the feeling is or the sound... if that dosn't solve the problem... suck it up and take it to the dealership... they atleast have a better knowledge of your car specificly...

I also have a squeaking noise on my 97 cavalier. You hear it mostly over speed bumps. Somethimes it goes away, though. My mechanic thinks that it comes from the stabilisator bar. He said something about some rubber parts on the stabilisator bar that must be changed. I didn't fix it yet.

:screwy: i have a 2002 cav Z24 front squeak and clunk coming from the front of my car. the chev dealer told me it was a front strut mount it only had 71000 km on it at the time and my 4 yr warranty was not up for another 6 months but the they would not cover it because it was past the bumper to bumper of 60000 i was pist a strut i think should last longer than 71000 km i hear your frustration. good luck
