ok, i bought my car a year ago, it had been stolen someone messed up the ignition, so i put in a push button start, before putting the car on the road i put a racing beat intake manifold and an edelbrock carb on it, when i would drive my car for the first time in the day it would start and run like a champ, after i shut it off and went to start it again it made a horrible screaching noise but would eventually start, i changed the starter and had no luck, then i took it and had a light weight flywheel put in and that solved the problem (so i thought) i drove the car around like that for a little while then my battery started going dead on me all the time, brand new battery, checked all ends etc. so i changed the alternator, no luck, changed the voltage regulator, no luck, looked underneath and saw a wire that had broke and came off of the starter, so i re-connected that, charged the battery and drove it for about ten minutes stopped at a store came back outside tried to start it and that screaching noise came back, i hadn't heard that noise in at least a month. should i just push this car off a cliff? please help!

if he has carbs, then its probably a SA22 or FC N/A. My guess is the belts. Check all of them and see if they need replacing.

there are new belts on it and it doesn't sound like belts do, it is an '85
