Don't know if you're planning on replacing the engine with another stock engine-short block. But mine was replaced (only because there was a warranty still on it and it had CW) and it was around $4000. When most 2g owners need to replace their engine, they change it to a 6 bolt and rebuild a junk yard motor. It's extremely cheaper. I rebuilt mine for under $500 and hopefully will never have to worry about CW again.

you know, i've heard a few things around here. the most popular thing to do is find a 90-94 6 bolt and swap it out. but if i reamber correctly the 95+ bottem ends have potentual for more horsepower then a 6 bolt bottem end. peope are just afrade of getting crankwalk, so they get the 1g 4g63.

to answer your question, i was on www.car-parts.com a couple days ago looking for a 6bolt head and found 4-5 places selling 90-94 cores or heads for $100-200. ebay a good place to look too. but your best bet is to call around to the junkyards and ask. if you were going to buy a 100k 1g 4g63, i dont think you should bee looking at much more then $300-500 with an unknown condition. maybe 750 for a good running one.

6 bolts are only in 90-92 cars, and some rare late 92s are 7 bolt. The 6 bolts have a higher power potential in addition to being a little more crankwalk resistant. The 7 bolts of all years are refered to as "small rod" motors. There is one guy about to break into the 10s on a 7 bolt. But the other 99.9999% of the poeple blow them up.

100k mile 6 bolt shortblocks can be worth up to 500. Thats what I put in my car when I first did the swap and I ran it deep into the 12s for 30k miles. When I took it out the motor was still the tits. Just wanted to go with a stage 2 ross/eagle block at the time. But then you have to add the head, and all the gaskets, timing belt parts, etc. The estimate above for a running long block at 750 is pretty accurate, for a 7 bolt. 6 bolt long block will usually be more money though.

Since your car is a 95 I would highly suggest getting DSMlink to counter the random misfire problem that comes with using a 1g CAS. You should have an eprom ECU (Only in 95s, but not all 95s had them, I got porked, of course ;) ).

There are occasionally good running 7 bolts for sale. I'm picking one up in fact. My buddy went with a 6 bolt after popping the HG on the 7 bolt. Still a good motor, and cheap. There are plenty of other poeple upgrading to a 6 bolt before the 7 bolt goes. Its just tough to find one local sometimes (shipping a motor is a pain in the ass).
