The real shame is that the Lambo factory never gave the US teams the support they were expecting and the cars were pulled before the season end...

It's not a prototype, it's a real life race car. Or used to be until the team taht ran it was forced to abolish the project due to the lack of factory support and poor competitiveness. :( Too bad, was the most popular ALMS car this year among the fans, looked and sounded great, even though I personally believe they could have done a better job on the livery.

Back to the lime green Murcie. I've given it two coats of clear and will now wait a day or two before I sand and polish it up. Might need to give it another coat, will wait and see how it looks. After the clear the finish has lost some of it's chameleonic colour changing effects, which is probably a good thing in scale. Hopefully I'll have some progress to report on the engine, interior and brakes soon.

Wow, cool I was at Road Atl too. It was my first ALMS race. I am a fan for life now. I hope the Lambos will do better next season. I could not believe how loud it was.

Body had been cleared and polished. As I said before, the colour is now more stable, athough the general hue still changes depending on the surroundings. I should have painted the gloss black sections like behind the windows and on the engine cover before clearing and polishing but wasn't thinking :screwy: Also forgot to cut out a depression for the front turn indicators. Too late now, will have to mount them raised or (horror) use the decals.

Have also spent (wasted) a bit of time cutting up the engine section, not only to fit new heads but also to flesh out the embryonic exhaust system Fujimi provide.

Yikes! Yeah, that black on the side panel is gloss black...

Update on the engine area. Lots of cutting and hacking, carbon fibre decalling, PE scripts and silver tape, even easter egg foil.

Sasa, no need look too closely at the real engine bay, Fujimi's (and my) version bare only a passing resemblance! Yeah easter egg foil, it's great stuff. I have a little box of various colours. My children kindly save it for me. :)

Not much done this weekend, had visitors plus the aircon is on the blink. But here is the engine insert mostly finished. All that is left to do in this area is paint the mesh at the rear black and make some supports for holding the engine cover open.

Are those A/N fittings from RB Motion or Sakatsu? I've bought every size of Plastruct's hexagonal rod so I can make that kind of stuff, but those you use look incredibly realistic!

And about the carbon decal: although I like it, I find it to be a little light, and it kind of jumps out at your eyes :) ehehhe What brand is that, anyway?

Pedro, you are absolutely correct, the carbon fibre pattern is not only too bright but too large as well. However, if it was smaller and darker it would be harder to see. Since there are so many errors in this kit I don't feel at all compelled to be accurate. :) It is Museum Collection decal, really nice stuff to work with, the opposite of their regular decals! They make a smaller size pattern but I plumbed for the big one. In the past I've given the Museum Collection CF a coat of Smoke to darken it but left it as is this time. I'm thinking that much of the engine will be difficult to see through the hatch, so being lighter might make it more visible. :dunno:

Yes the connectors are Sakatsu, really great little things. I've just recently got hold of some Plastruct hex rod myself, the oil and coolant (?) caps are made from it actually. There are also some Galtran nuts and bolts in there.

Didn't take too long to do the decaling SchuberT. The secret is to use masking tape to make templates, which you then transfer to decal. That way you can cut out exactly the right size and shape to fit the spot. Takes some practice (and like most things in our hobby is kind of fiddly) but is the only way to go for complicated shapes like this.

Hey Phil, sneaking stuff in to the road section! Can't believe I missed this thread up to now, your model looks the dogs, first class as usual. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread from now on.

Hey, for anybody who is interested I've found the code for Verde Artemis, the 40th Aniversary colour - it is (ta da) 0083. Found it on the Standox site. Any automotive paint trade supply shop should be able to mix it up. I've already had some mixed because it's a good place to start for the pearl green/blue that Jaguar used on the XJ220 at Le Mans in 1993. :) The ground coat is a light turquoise, almost a perfect match for the March/Leyton House Formula One colour.

Great job so far, Phil! I got my yellow Murc' in the EMS mail t'other day...now just waiting on the SP conversion kit and decals. I ended up finding 20+ megs of pics on the web for the GT-R...will be doing the Krohn*Barbour version myself!

Thanks everybody there isn't much left to do with this kit, mostly just the interior but it will be a couple of weeks at least until I get it completed. Would be nice to finish it before the end of the year but, probably not.

Pedro, I wouldn't say that Museum Collection decals are no good. But they are different and a bit frustrating to work with, at least they were for me at first. If possible use some left over decals as practice first so you can get used to them. I also made the mistake of clear coating over them, which didn't work that well, as they are very thick.

Bill, I plan to get hold of a Scale Productions transkit and do a R-GT as well. Being an Aussie I intend to build David Brabham's Krohn-Barbour machine too.

I found the Museum Collection decals to be brittle, even a simple Ferrari badge broke apart as I was applying it.

I recommend coating them with Microscale Decal Film before using.

great work! i cant believe the CF decal work. im having lots of decal issues with my Silvia Impul. Your work has been my standard (unmet) since our first arguement about Rally mud hehehe. Still envious!

Another small update. Mocked up headlights, I used Sakatsu lenses for the larger projector, can't really see the slight reshape in this pic. Also painted the gloss black window surrounds, still need to fill in the part over the top of the door with black decal.

Here are the wheels, and brake discs/calipers. I originaly used a darker shade in the rims but they didn't look right so I ended up redoing them a rather bright chrome, will see how it turns out on the finshed car. Also can be seen the exhaust, with a metal rod joining the two lower pipes together. I'm hoping it will give a more positive and stronger location to the very vague fit stright from the kit.

Those panel lines look so sharp it's hard to believe it's the same Fujimi kit I have. Did you enhance them with darker color or did you just scribe them deep enough to look so good? I'm wondering how to make the panel lines look good enough on a pearl yellow Murci. The lines seem so wide that I think they wont look to good as they are even though I've scribed them deeper than they were.
