Body work '88 S-10

I've been shopping around and I think I've found some parts that I can use. My truck has a lot of rust, enough to where I'm sure it's a lot better to replace pieces, so I am going to start with the bed. I found a bed for sale that I can use. I am pretty sure I can do this but my questions are:

1. Does a manual have steps in doing this and if so can someone recommend a good one for doing body work?

2. Is there a manual out there that teaches the basics of doing a body work. I am new to all of this but my truck doesn't look so great now and I figure I can only improve it so I'm going to give it a shot.

Also, exactly what years can I use the parts from? If I find a mid 90's truck, will the body pieces bolt up to my truck or what years and models should I stick to so that I don't have to modify to much? Thanks in advance.

Not that I expect my truck to look like these but I am willing to do the work if I can find a good manual and tutorial on how to do it.

I would go to your local auto parts store and pick up the haynes autop body repair manual.

I'm sure you can find something on autobody work just by doing a search on the net.As for being able to do it,took me 10 years and I still learn little things all the time.

The best advice that I can give is use good quality rust inhibitors. I like POR-15 http://www.por15.com/default.asp and swear by it(now), although it's PRICIE!

Learn off my mistakes... do the job right the first time and it should last you a long time.

No I didn't do any body work on that.Talking about rust inhibitors,use good ole used motor oil.It works great and it gets where the water gets,thus displacing the water.Like door bottoms.

Idiot.Your not spraying oil everywhere,just in tight places where rustproofing can't get.One benefit of oil is that it penetrates,like in the bottom of a door where the skin is folded over and where the bedside meets the wheelwell(inside).Tell me how stupid it is when your door bottoms start to rust or your lower quarters start to blow out.I bet they already started. :cwm27:

Besides BlazerLT I work in a bodyshop and everything there is toxic.Here is the question.What isn't toxic in todays world?:)
