Help my husband

My husband replaced the starter in my 98 surburban. Now the starter will turn over but the engine will not start. He replaced the fuel pump relay but still won't start. He says he sprayed starter fluid in it and it wanted to start but wouldn't. Nothing seems to work. Seems as if the fuel pump is not working or atleast you can't hear it working when the ignition is turned on. What should I tell him to do? He doesn't think I know anything about cars (which I don't) but if I could fix it, it would make my day and right now he's not making my day. Can anyone help?

The starter turns but no fuel pump? You should hear the pump prime the system when you first turn the key to ignition. If you hear nothing then the pump isn't working. And on your Suburban it's possible it just died when you last parked it in place. I have a 99 Suburban and my pump died in the driveway last winter after I had noticed my pump was very noisy for weeks. The fuel pump and fuel sending unit are together on your truck and inside the fuel tank. A garage will have to drop the tank to get to it and the cost is around $600. Good luck and let me know how in turns out.

This sounds like the problem that someone had who responded to my thread; "Suburban Fuel Pump" last edited on 10-21-04. Ask your Husband to read it, including all the additional postings and it may help. I would also look for ANY postings related to fuel or electrical related problems. It could save you alot of $money$ and aggravation. My freind spent a ton money on parts and way too much time, only to find out he needed a new main CPU for about $100.
Also check out the thread "Fuel Pump Maybe" last edited on 10-13-04.
GOOD LUCK, and keep posting your results (many minds think better than one).

There is a fuse just for the fuel pump. It is in the fuse box under the hood. The lid to the box has a map as to which fuse is which and there should be a little tool in there to pull the fuse. Pull and check the fuse. Best to start with the $.20 parts first. You are correct about hearing the pump. You should hear it as soon as you turn the key over.

When he replaced the starter did he replace the positive wires correctly to the starter/ignition switch? How about at the battery? these 98 gm's have a seperate power feed line if its not connected you wont have the power to the pump or any accesorys
