I have a 1995 Ranger Rover 4.0 and I have an oil leak coming from the oil filter. I have replaced the filter three times now so I know it is not the filter itself. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks

I have a P38 4.0with the same problem & am sure the leak is coming from the oil cooler pipe where the flexible is swaged into the solid pipe, as this is next to the filter is deos look like the filter that is leaking.
Landrovers (all models) leak oil on your drive & water inside on your feet, its part of their charm & appeal & it wouldnt be the same if they didnt.
Seriously tho have a close look at or replace the cooler pipe if its a P38

HAD SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH MY 99, ABOVE YOUR FILTER THERE IS THE OIL SENSOR, HAD A LEAK DEVELOP THERE I ALSO THOUGHT IT WAS MY OIL FILTER, REPLACED IT FOR ABOUT 10 BUCKS.

Check the tightness of the oil cooler pipes. I found one of mine was loose. I just tightened the nut to fix the problem.

ThanksWorst case it could be the cheap seal between the engine and the transmission but it's noy cheap to replace.

The most likely cause on earlier P38A Range Rovers is failure of the diaphragm in the oil pressure switch. It is a known problem which has been addressed by a Land Rover TSB.
There is a replacement part which is not expensive but is a bit of pain to access. Remove the belt tensioner to get to it.
Oil pressure switch:
New Part No. Old Part No.
STC4104 AMR2092
Mine failed, too.
