i know very little about anime and would like some suggestion for what people think i might like.
i've been following ghost in the shell 2 stand alone complex since i saw a couple of episodes in tokyo last year. i also really enjoyed the cowboy bebop series and film. that and the original gits and akira is the only anime i've seen.
what do people recommend that's in the same vein? are there any seminal anime films / series that i really must see?
and for anyone in the uk, are there any channels on sky that regularly carry anime? cnx used to, but they seem to have disappeared some time ago. :(

The first anime i seen was Ninja Scroll. It was so violent and it had a pretty good storyline. What kind of genre are you interested in?

Try out Gungrave, Trigun, Hellsing, Vampire Hunter D, and Neon Genesis Evangelion. These ones are my favortie. Also check out this link http://www.animefringe.com/magazine/2005/01/feature/05.php It lists the best sites to find out information on animes.

Ghost In The Shell is my favorite (both seasons of the show and the movies), followed by Trigun, Vamp hunter D (the second one is better lol), Akira, Cowboy Bebop, Jin-Roh (sp?), and Ninja Scroll in no particular order.

They are a bit more action based, Jin-Roh is probably my second favorite since it is more emotion and self exploration based (and great animation and visual effects and theems), its still violent and has good action scenes but thats not the part that I like best abot it. So yea, watch them all and decide what you like best, they are all good in different ways.

I would suggest any Miyazake movies like "The Princess Mononoke" or "Spirited Away", Pricess Mononoke is much more violent than spirited away...if it matters. Other than that I would reccomend "Cowboy Bebob" (Series and Movie), "The Lodos Wars", "Akira", "Ghost In The Shell" (Series and Movie), "Reroni Kenshan" (no idea on the spelling), and "Full Metal Alchemist". The animes that I have found disapointing are "Inuyasha" (which I liked at first but got sick of really fast), "Lupin the third", "Yu Gi Oh" (I've never been abvle to sit through more than about 3 minutes), and this is gonna piss some people on this forum off, but "Initial D" it was cool at first but it gets old fast, at least for me.
