hello camaro forums...

i have been in the market for a car/truck any kid of vehicle, and camaro's seem to tickle my fancy. it seems like it is easy to obtain HP from these cars...

for sub 10K which year/model would you guys suggest?

how is this car on insurance?

is it reliable?

thanks

SB

Generally speaking, the newer and lower mileage and better. However the newer you go, the more insurance your going to have to pay for the car. If you go with a later model V8 car they already come with plenty of power. If you get the V6 which would be cheaper to buy, run, and insure, you can save money but wont be able to keep up with the V8 cars.

it also depends on what kinda driving ur gonna do!
if its just gonna take u to work and back, id suggest a v6 late 3rd gen or a v6 early 4th gen!
it depends on what u wanna do with it in the long run. or what kinda style u like.
thats my :2cents:

wow... i love this place... its like instant replies!

i would like to save some gas, as it looks like sooner or later its going to be 2 bucks a gallon :(...

are these cars easy to maintain? i dont really want to get an import if i dont have to :P

i would like to go fast when needed, but its not necessary. priorities are set at reliability.

thanks for the replies so far.

oh, Welcome to the forums, if someone hasnt said that already.
but ive been hearing that RS's r best for reliability. i own a 91 RS, and the only things i've had to replace is the tranny mount and the tranny valve cable, the cable breakin is my fault tho.

well then i think a camaro isnt your friend here

if its just a to and from car look at a chevy metro
cobalts are nice to but those are above 10k
cavaliers are good on gas

also your decision can depend on where you live

Id have to say its one of the best cars I have ever owned. Uses that gas when lights turn green, but still a nice all around sports car to own.

LS1 F-body and WRX STI are pretty dead lock on 1/4 mile times but off the line the WRX is faster and up top LS1 Camaro is faster and in between like 1/4 mile could go either way.

I bought a 94 V6 Camaro for my first car like 4 months ago. I kinda got screwed over though, I bought a car that had a blown head gasket. Be sure that you don't buy one with a blown head gasket (mine didn't seem like it was busted). It's pretty common on the 4th gen V6 cars.

It really kills you with the insurance though, but it's worth it to me just to be driving something that I can be proud of (I've only driven it home). I just looked up the insurance for me, if I wasn't on one of my parent's insurance, and it would be $212.54 a month for me, with my car. The down payment would be $659.58. If you have enough money, you could buy a crapper Honda, and list it as your main driver, then only use it if you go to the insurance company (not exactly legal).

As long as you don't get a one with a blown head gasket, and you keep up a good schedule in check-ups and maintenance, it will run well.

It matters how long you look for a car to how good of one you can get. If you can afford insurance, get a V8, they are more reliable it seems, and nothing beats American V8 power. If you can't get a V8, get a V6 with a 3.8L engine, it's a lot stronger than the 3.4L engine.

I'm currently working on my car, that's why I haven't driven it, as stated in my previous post.
