Chatroom?

Just curious if you guys would be interested in having a chatroom for the street racing section? I think it would be fun, but i want to see how many of you would use/currently use/or would like a chatroom? You can make more than one choice in the poll. Ok just to make this poll a little more clear, make TWO selections please. Im trying more so to get a consensus than just a yes or no poll.

I sort of like this message board with the current format. This way I can read all the races that occured in the past. With a chatroom, all of that stuff isn't kept.

Andydg you loser, dont spam the poll, fucking moron. Anyone can see what you voted for, so if you think your funny by spamming it think again. We will all know your an asshole.

It wouldnt be a good idea because people will get off topic and start talking about random things. However, you can talk to ppl on aim, and make a chat that way that would work a little better

yeah, its more of just a chatroom for everyone here. Like a general chat, but for the street racing guys. This section of the forum seems like a closer group than the rest. I mean when i dont know about you guys, but the first section i go to when i get into the forum.

I think we should make it on mIRC rather than AIM; mIRC is much faster and easier to use.

i wasnt gonna use either one, i was gonna use a java based chat, that requires no registration, no singing up, no money for the users. MIRC charges 20 bucks. The java one requires no downloads, no installs, maybe just a simple java install that would work through IE.

I clicked all of them, cause i hate multiple choices polls.
No I propabbly wouldn't use it, and yes it might be nice to have on occasion, but I doubt it would get used as much as it could
My 5 cents

They should have a chatroom so people can get answers almost instantly or just share what they have to say at that time they want to. Keep the forums and make a chat room for each make of car. That would be cool.

Im not sure there will be enough ppl to keep it live and answer all questions...I mean we all have cars, and the need 2 pay for them means we have jobs or are in school...will people be able to log on to a chatline for that long?

Why don't we just see how it works out? If the moderators allow for it, I know me, my buddy, and my dad could probably get a Chat Room setup for us. I'm not too good with Java, but my dad and my friend are, and I am a quick learner.
I personally think it would be a great idea. We can keep it just to Street Racing as a foundation (stories/ideas/parts) but let people ask their own questions about Hondas/BMWs/etc. I think ultimately it could unify the entire forum, and I know if EVERYONE here worked together, NO ONE would have questions. Sure, this is long-term, but I plan to use this forum for a long time. How about you guys?
The only downfall would be the few bad eggs. Domestic lovers attacking Import lovers live, and vice versa. But that's what moderators are for.
If this ends up not working, then hey, we all still got AIM and MSN right?

well i already have a hosting company picked out. Its 5 bucks a month, so its pretty cheap. I would choose the moderators, prolly from this forum who are moderators already, and a few others in the chat that appear to be well behaved individuals. I already posted something like this in the suggestions area, but no one seemed to like it their, so if their is a chatroom its gonna be privetly supported, not supported by the org servers.

That sucks. I think it would be cooler if it would be a lot of people from the forum rather than just a select few.

i think this forum is just fine. especially when you think about how many times we go from one subject to another.

why in the hell would it be a good idea to make alot of people moderators? so they can all argue and starting abusing their power?

I think he thought that only a few people would be allowed to use the chat room, not be mods. I'm not really sure but thats how I took it.
It's an idea, and it would be a way so others could talk more on the lines of a single topic and having other opinions and suggestions right on tap, but then again with the forum you can always go back and look at what others have said over a large period of time.

it does not charge 20 bucks.. get yourself a script.. after your 31 days or so is over... just wait for about an extra 15 seconds and you'll be able to click continue.. and be able to chat without spending 20.00 so pretty much.. mIRC is free.
and since when did chatting involve street racing? isn't this off-topic? :evillol:

Actually wise ass, it's the same thing, we're communicating between each other with no real point we're trying to get across, hence, chatting.

Actually your both wise asses. Nah, I dont really think that, just needed something to start my reply with.
I still think a chat room would be great. But remember it would be a chat room, not a racing chat room, because in a chat room off topic conversation takes over very easily. Id like to be a mod if im trusted enough, if not I perfectly understand.
As for Chatting compared to Message Boards....They have many differences. With boards you post, others can read ALL posts/ search history. It allows you to be involved without constantly being there. However you must wait for replies. With chat your replies are instant and a conversation is held as though you are with the other chatters. However, this usually leads off topic, and requires you to be on alot more to keep up.
But why not have both?

No, wise ass, it's not the same thing. A chatroom involves, for the most part (give or take a few seconds) the allowance of real time response to a particular person and the likes, whereas a forum is delayed responses over a period of one minute or so (given that you cannot post more than one response every 30 seconds, and between 2 persons that is 1 minute of time), SO maybe you should think before you POST.
Now, if the administration thought it would be a good idea to involve a chat, there would be one, but as you have all displayed with your pointless bickering over something so simple as a chatroom itself, instating one would most likely do more harm than good. Now, all of you please feel free to STFU and be on your way.
