head lights

headlights don't come on but the driving lights (fog) come on and dash lights do high beams come on when turned on but no headlights were do's one start :banghead: like to get this fixed asp so my wife can drive at night and not drive me :screwy: thanks

THis is a '95 model....
and in Canada you have daylight running lamps, normally, the low beam of headlights.

Now, you say the High beams come on when turned ON..?? with the dashboard switch?
So...I must understand only the low beam is unavailable....True????
Or is it that the full headlights do not come ON automatically at night ?....
There are some gaps in the description of the problem, but.....at least, one simple thing, just in case. The auto headlight turn on at night is disabled if the parking brake pedal (and switch, consequently) in not in the complete release position......may be this is a clue....otherwise, please explain the problem in full details.

I lack the wiring diagram for '95, but based on the '93,(the '93 had no "fog" lights) for the low beams to be out of commission through the dayling driving circuit as well as for switch or auto activated night driving, it would need a broken wire or connection downstream of the DLR diode, or both low filaments are blown..which you would have check of course. Hope someone comes with the '95 diagram...

did the check of the lights thay are working the headlight's still don't come on at all :banghead:. might hook the lights to the "fog" lights if that will work :naughty: thanks for the help :cheers:

A review of the wiring diagram for a '94 with daytime running lights and fog lights shows

- that the drl and auto lights functions are bypassed by the headlamp switch. In the on position power is supplied to the dimmer switch, then to the high or low beam. Lights will work at any time.

- fog light is a separate system that uses a relay grounded through the high beams. turn on high beams, 12v is on both sides of relay coil, relay opens and fog lights turn off.

you say you can turn on high beams, (normal function)

That would rule out the headlamp switch as the problem.

As LMP mentioned,I would first check the low beam bulbs to see if they are burnt out. I had a '81 Datsun 310, one night turned on my lights and within 3 seconds both low beams burnt out. What are the odds.

If the bulbs are good, check for 12V and good ground at bulb connector

No 12V, could be a bad headlight dimmer switch, bad connection or broken wire.

Once you ignore the DRL, auto light on, and fog lights, its a simple straightforward circuit, power supply, two switchs and a load.

small update still no headlights checked the e-brake switch good what next ? what i did to get lights on was ran some wire's from the foglights to the lowbeam light i know this is mickeymouse :nono: but i don't know what to do next ? hate to take it to the dealer for something like this and have to give them my arm@leg if you know that i mean thanks for the help :worshippy

I just had the same problem with a 1994 Transport Se 3.1L ... I just bought it and it turned out that contact switches for the on and off function had melted in the steering column and that it created this problem. I had the them replaced by a self-employed mechanic (try an industrial park sector) with used parts and it works fine so far ... Cost was 80$ Canadian including labor and parts.
