would anyone like to recommend a particular brand of air filter for the rodeo (i have a 99 S 4x4 automatic).

I order mine from St. Charles isuzu. 3 OEM fliters for about 18 bucks shipped (6 bucks per filter).

Fram cost about 20 bucks per filter.

WOW, glad I asked, great price!

Do you feel they are equal in quality? OR even close. Obviously you like them enough to use them.

Agree 100% with respect to their oil filters (I dont use'em anymore due to problems I've had), but fram air filters are actually pretty good. I'll still buy another brand if possible, but if you hold a fram air filter next to another brand, they are fairly good quality.

BUMMER, seems Amigo-2Kgot a deal he shouldn't have on those air filters. I called St. Charles Isuzu today, and the guy (merlyn) said this was the second call for the 3/$18 price, and at first he coudn't figure it out. they quoted $17.50 per filter OEM (free shipping, no tax out side of Mo. Merlyn the quessed that Amigo-2K got 3 by accident from them, that he should have only gotten one. Merlyn asked me to pass this along to this forum

Amigo-2K, if you have any thoughts, let us know!

I always thought it was a mistake. I few days after I got mine another isuzu memeber had the same thing happen. Must of been a newbie filling the orders.

Amsoil 2-stage foam air filter. One-time buy, lasts lifetime if maintained. '99 uses TS108, costs $40 retail. I use one on my '00 and it works well and no more buying paper filters over an over again. Got mine at http://www.oilwerks.biz - follow the link to the online store. Also has a link for the application guide to find what filter fits.

Use extreme caution if you choose to buy a washable / oiled air filter. You will run the risk of fouling your MAF sensor on these trucks from oil carry over or dirt. They tend to let a bit more dirt thru, when first put to service. It all depends on how/where you use your truck, but I'm still on my factory denso air filter with my 2002 @ 28000 miles. I'll swap it out pretty soon with any old name-brand, off the shelf (inexpensive) filter.

Must of owned a K&N product. They tend to do that. Any oiled gauze will do that, however, foam will not, especially a two stage foam (coarse/fine).

Amsoil uses a tacky oil and the foam is saturated with it. Not like the K&N oil at all - it sticks to the foam. I'm sure there are other foam filters out there, but I've only used the one from Amsoil and have no problems with it. The K&N on my Ford product - 360* open element is a pos. I always have to spray it with oil to keep it from drying out. Get those dry and the filter is nothing more than a screen door. The filtration efficiency is not that great either. The gauze is too porous and not enough depth to it. K&N filters are for maximum airflow and not much concern on filtration.

Have you actually had the MAF problem? I ask because I have seen that statement on several boards but no one ever actually admitted it happening to them. I have used K&N on several F/I engines and never had a problem. I do agree with the initial filtration issues with a new element though.

Mike, I never had that problem myself. Never used a K&N, oiled, or open cone style air filter on my daily drives. I do however see posts from time to time on the various boards I hang out in, in regards to fouled MAF's from oil and/or dirt carry over from the so-called "performance" air filters. In fact, you can almost certainly kiss warranty (covered) work good-bye if a dealership see's a modified airbox or oiled air filter on your (under-warranty) vehicle. IMHO- these filters have their place in off road, race & industrial applications, but are a total waste (and sometimes harmful) for an on-road, computerized daily driver. Another marketing gimmick.
