What Am i doing Wrong ??????

Hi everybody.....
hmmm
well last weekend .......
PPL wanted to race stock civic D17A around my area.....
so i put iridiums in my car ... and a short ram intake in my car...
and with a slipping clutch plate..........
i was almost the fastest...........
well they had same event today ........
and i decided to prepare...
i put in headers.. high flow cat... 2.5" exaust piping...
high flow exsaut
light weight flywheel....... new pressure plate and cltuch plate
i had a musroom filter before on my short ram... was a little dirty so i put a new pretty one... which was a bit smaller than my musroom one..
and my car went slower by 4/5 car lengths ..............

anybody here got any clue ........ how did i end up doing it ??//
has i suppose to adjust the air fuel ratio after installing all this stuff...
is it cuz of the smaller filter ????

and somehting weird......... when i shift gear....
RPM drop way too much now....
is it because the light fly wheel doesn't hold momentum as much as my stock one ??????

How light of a flywheel did you go? If you drag race a heavier flywheel is better. Hopefully you went with a 12 pounder and not the 8. The flywheel is responsible for your rpms dropping quickly for the reason you stated.

What kind of filter are you running? I would only go K&N.

Lastly perhaps you didn't have enough practice with your new clutch?

I hope you broke in the clutch before racing (by saying you changed it within the past week I'm doubting you did). You should always brake in the clutch before going hard on it, just like with new brake pads (it's the same material). And like with brake pads; if you don't brake them in they won't stop as well, your clutch won't grip as well if you don't brake it in first before getting on it.

did u reset teh ecu?

i did reset the ecu......... its a zex flywheel..
i don't know how much it weighs...
and i did brake in the clutch,.,,

mayb u were going faster bfore bc the clutch was slipping

on their website it says the shipping weight is 12lbs ... so how much would be the weight of the fly wheel ?????

first of all, prelude, do you own a lighten flywheel ? or are you just repeating what the rumor is ? because i know a few people that have a 8lbs flywheel and they love it and it drives good.

also reseting the ecu does nothing

yes with the flywheel, the rpms will drop between shifts. just shift faster

possibly your exhaust may be too large.. Many people have this idea that larger is always better, but this is not always true....A lighter flywheel will give you less torque because there is less rotating mass. Though you engine suppose to be more efficent at the higher rpms..

4/5th of a car length (I have no idea how you came up with that odd fraction) is negligible distance in a drag race. A loss of only that much can be attributed to driver skill. You probably just drove your first run a lot better than your second. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Ok im confused what kind of car do you have and what kind of car did you race?

You could have been hustled if you raced for money, they could have sprayed.

Yes Civickiller. I do own a 12.8 pound ACT streetlite flywheel. I don't see the point where I said anything about a lightened flywheel being bad or not driving good. An 8 pound flywheel would improve acceleration but also be worse for drag racing because you'll lose off the line torque. ACT even states on their website that the streetlite is heavier for street and drag racing vehicles that require more inertia. An 8 pound flywheel would be better for Autocross or similar where keeping your RPMs high is key.

sorry what i meant to say was, how did you coem to the conclusion that a heavier flywheel is better for drag racing, is this a rumor you are just repeating or do you know for a fact.

see its for drag racing vehicles thats require more inertia, does his car require more inertia, not if hes shifting fast enough. a heavier flywheel is not better for drag racing in anyway, as long as you can shift fast.

well its a 2003 civic 4 door sedan....
comes with d16w9 engine almost the saem as d17a i think....
well i took my car in for a pgm test...
my crank position sensor wasn't working...
they fixed it.. it is working fine now...
