Jeep CJ-5 advice

Hey I was wondering what you guys think about this deal. One of my friends' Grandpa had a 70s CJ-5 that he left at her house, then he died, and now shes wanting to get rid of it. She said that she used to crank it up everyday up until 3 years ago because she got tired of it, and now shes selling it. She was asking 600$ for it, but now she told me if I wanted it I could have it for 50 bucks. She said it won't crank anymore, but when it did it ran good. If I did buy it, to get it to crank I would probably have to rebuild the carb. and put a new gas pump in it, cables, spark plugs, a whole tune up, and then maybe it might crank. would it be worth it?

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That thing is worth more than $1000 in parts alone, even if you can't get it to run.

Your biggest concern is if the engine is seized from sitting. If you think it is, pull all the plugs and pour WD40 or a combination of auto transmission fluid and diesel fuel in the cylinders and let it sit for a week. Repeat if necessary. Try gently turning the engine with a wrench on the crankshaft pully bolt and rocking it back and forth until it turns freely.
The rest is, as you say, just a tune up and change all the fluids.

Thanks for the advice Magic. Its one of those hardtops that you can take the top off, but on this one, her grandpa welded the damn top on for some reason. is there a way I could fix that?
