200whp n/a how do I do it?

Would a cam, lifters, and those racing heads from the fiero store get me 200whp. I will be going turbo but want atleast 200whp so that when I boost I will have close to the same power as a v8 swap.

Anybody with a boosted 2.8 using Dennis's kit.....what rpm do you get full boost?

I'm not sure if that would be enough or not...you might get there with a 3.1 stroker kit along with the upgrades you mentioned. I think the 3.1 kit starts you out at 165 hp instead of the 140 in the 2.8. If you work on the intake a little, get rid of the air box inside the fender well and get a big bore throttle body. Get some headers, and good exhaust. I'd say you could get 200-220 hp.
As far as turboing goes, i've heard that 14 psi boost, is like doubling your displacement.
Keep us posted what kind of results you get from your upgrades. I, for one would really be interested to hear how it goes. I'm planning on doing the same thing with one of my cars.

Everyone knows about V8 Arhchie.....but why go buy thousands of dollars of parts to make the engine fit, then buy a few thousand dollars worth of engine. I think it's possible to get a formidable ride from the V6. I came across a guy in Oklahoma that had a fiero set up for SCCA with a Quad 4 and he ran 10.5 second quarter miles with it.
Sure slapping a 350, LT1, LS1, or Northstar in there is pretty cool.....but dollar for dollar I think the upgraded V6 is a better way to go.

Unfortunately the stock 2.8L V6 Fiero engine is a weak engine to start with. So building that engine up will get you an already weak engine with even a shorter life span.

So IMHO you will spend too much money (a waste of money) building up a weak engine. So you are left with options of finding a 3.4 engine in which to rebuild to get out 200 HP.

For similiar money you can find a SBC that will get you 200HP from the beginning or a lot more if you want to.

I'm sure that a Quad 4 doing the quarter mile in 10.4 seconds was not an inexpensive build. It probably cost more that a SBC in a Fiero.

hmmmmm i have 3 2.8's that have 127000, 154000, and 178000, and they are all still running strong....what's your idea of a short life span?
Who knows....I suppose some people don't know how to do preventative maintenance, like changing oil, checking coolant, and things like that.

I have a 2.8 with over 100K and I know some 2.8 that have over 250K. I also had a 2.8 with 54K and bad engine (it was used for SCAA racing). But if someone is tring to boost a 2.8 to 200HP, it isn't to be a gentle driver. i.e. the car will be a runner and will be misused. To get the use of the HP you'll be driving the car at 4-5000 rpm which is not the best driving range for an engines longevity no matter how frequently you change the oil.

my 2.8 has 220,000 on it and has just started to show a lil smoke when you let it sit for a day or so, it runs nice and strong still, my buddy turboed his and it died wiht 12,ooo he only had like 40,000 on it before hand

You shouldn't just bolt on boost to a stock engine...there are some things you should do to prepare the engine for the added compression. If not then you are asking for disasterous results. As well as any factory boosted engine straight from the dealer, the internals of those engines are not the same as the N/A equivalent.

I think 200whp is pretty close, don't forget a reduction crankshaft pulley, use a 3400 throttle body and pump up the fuel pressure and match it with some better injectors. The engine isn't weak, it just needs some fastener and bearing upgrades. The STOCK rods handle up to 7000rpm!!! Anyway, this link is great reading so check it out:

LAR- Why pay 6 grand for 300hp/300tq. That's a master archie kit and a decent 350 crate motor. The only reason to do this swap is if your rich or gonna sell it after the swap. I reaserched this. This doesn't factor in the occasional hook up, but not everybody has those.

MY plan of attack is to sleeve the 2.8, forged pistons, forged rods, 3.4 forged crank, racing heads and a dennis turbo kit, upgrade fuel as needed and get all the gadgets and gizmos. I want to run atleast 15 psi but 20 is my goal.

It may cost 10 grand but to be pushin atleast 500hp by 2500 rpms is devastating.

The reason for turbo is simply because it creates a way broader powerband.

Does anyone know where you can go to Dyno your car? And how much does it cost?

500 hp?!!? I don't know....sounds cool though http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/images/smilies/grinyes.gif My goal is 300, but I know that if I get there, I'll want MORE! But I'll be extremely happy if I can get into the 12's in the quarter, while keeping a stock look on the outside.

We have a place here that does fuel injection and turbocharger work, mostly on big on and off road diesels, but they do dabble in some automotive stuff too. They do have a chassis dyno and they allow cars to come in off the street for tests. They charge $75.00 for 2 runs.

hmm building the 2.8 you'll spend a bunch a money or the 3.4, the problem is the restrictive air intake. Yes it can be done, but why not just get something with an aftermarket.

I think there was a guy I saw at the Michigan Show before.. Steve Hamm? if I remember that correctly believe he pushed 450 HP so I was told, but I heard that thing was reworked like no tomorrow.

you can make anything fast, but better be prepared for it not being as reliable or having a transmission that can't handle the power.
