SRS Air Bag Warning Light Flashing

The bright amber SRS Light on the instrument panel has now started flashing at times on my '96 Contour.
It flashes three times, then pauses, and three times. It happens frequently, but not all of the time (maybe 10 minutes in 10 cycles out of every hour on the road). It is obviously VERY annoying at night!
Naturally the Ford owner's manual is useless in decoding the three-flash warning, and the manual I have (Haines) says absolutely nothing about it.
Anybody have a similar deal with a solution?

What ever you do DON'T take out the light!!! I went through 2 weeks of trouble shooting till I found out that if there no bulb in the socket, it will tell the altenator not to charge . Went through 2 of those as well. And we don't want to talk about trying to pass emmissions won't happen till you replace all of the o2 censors and calatic converter!!! I bought my 96 Contour for $3300. And I have put way more than that in to it.
