I would like to hear from those of you that own F-150's, 250's, exployers, navigaters, excursions, rangers, expeditions, and other models.... that have rust on the bottom of the inside of the doors, tail gates, and rear hatches.
I have a 2002 F-150 4 wheel drive that had 23,ooo+ miles on it and had the best of care and still formed rust on all 4 doors and the tail gate. When I took it back to the dealer to have it repaired UNDER THE BUMPER TO BUMPER, 36,000 mile WARRANTY,,,,,, I was at first told the doors and tail gate would be replaced !..... but when it was dropped off a the dealer to be repaired,,,, the repair changed to fixing the rusty doors instead of replacment,,,, I said the proposed repair would NOT last... but they insisted it would,,,,, It DID last,,,,, for 4 weeks !!! The tail gate was not repaired at that time and I took it back and they performed the same repair,,,,,,,,,, and it lasted ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 4 weeks !!!
only thing they are consistant in is the lengh of their unprofessional repairs !!! Now they tell me they will perform the repair ( at no cost to me),,,,,, except the inconvience of taking my truck to the dealer and waiting for them to make the SAME inefectual repair again,,,, apearantly every 4 weeks !!! The sad thing is,,,,, I am an employee of Ford Motor Company,,,,,, and when I complained the first time that this proposed repair would not be a lasting repair,,, I was told to "SEND NO MORE EMAILS" to them !!! it is evident that FORD MOTOR COMPANY does not want to put their words on paper so they can be held responsible for them later.... Hows that for credibility ?
Welcome to the new FORD MOTOR COMPANY ,,,, where customer satisfaction is our number one priority !!! Hahahahahahaha
The amazing thing is they sent me a Technical Service bulletin that they published,,,, and it says that they knew they had a problem in 2001, they said the rust was CAUSED by the glue they used to glue the outer pannel to the inner pannel of the doors, tail gates and hatches. ( I cannot believe they sent me this !!! )
They KNEW this in 2001,,,,, and still they just kept on making the same defective doors right out into 2002 and who knows how long ?
They knew they made defective doors and will not stand behind their slick slogans,,,,,, "QUALITY IS JOB ONE ! "..... heard that one ?
Should just change their slogans to some thing more realistic.... maybe some thing like "SCREW THE CUSTOMERS,,, THERE'S MILLIONS OF EM " ,,,,, or " QUALITY COST MONEY, WE WOULD RATHER KEEP THEM PROFITS "
IF your driving a FORD product.... the TSB 01-9-8 covers 1997 - 2001 ( and other models ) ... mine is a 2002.... I have not looked at any 2003's but have looked at many 2002's and older,,and have found that rust on almost EVERY one that I looked at..... go out and look at your doors, tail gates, and hatches, and send me a note,,, and I will forward you that TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 01-9-8....and you can then ask the arrogant, greedy. short sighted.... leaders of FORD MOTOR COMPANY, Why they sold you a vehicle with known defective pannels installed on YOUR VEHICLE,,,,,
Look at the bottom of the doors on the inside edge, where the outer pannel is bent over the bottom of the inner door pannel... it is called the hem flange.... YOU WILL SEE THAT RUST !!!!! same on the tail gates and rear hatches.... and be happy that FORD screwed you too !!!

Thank you for you passionate post! You should copy paste it and post this in the stree-release forum under coffee break for some more insight to this.
The thing with Ford and rust is that they only repair, not replace. If the rust is showing on the surface anywhere else, you have to wait until it's all the way through the panel until they do something about it.
I recommend that after you have it repaired, purchase an electronic rust inhibitor that is offered from the dealership. That will make a difference. Also, a paint protection package will help.
