Hesitation in 1st gear, something burning, and maybe oil pressure low?

Well I just got the car back after having the following parts replaced.
1. O2 sensor
2. Speed Sensor
3. Fuel Filter
4. EGR Valve/tube?
now it idles correctly at 1,000 however there seems to be some hesitation in 1st gear, kinda feels like its congested. It doesn't seem to get past 25mph in 1st gear (not that I normally drive it like that) but it seems like the rpm's are going up as high as 5,000 yet the car isn't getting over 20mph.
I drove it for about 60miles and the oil pressure stayed around 40 for the most part. However when stopped it smelled like something was burning, and it doesn't smell like oil. There is enough oil in it too.
suggestions please.
btw, this engine is a remanufactured 3.1 with about 2,000 miles on it.

if it is a manual it sounds like the clutch is slipping i had the same problem with mine if you dirve it easy you cant tell, but if you get on it the RPM's go way up and the car does not move, what your probly smelling is the clutch burning

It is a manual, the hesitation is only in 1st gear, and after about 30 seconds or so it takes off quick like normal, and the problem doesn't seem to be in any other gears. It's back in the shop now, and the mechanic said (without trying it out) that it sounds like it would be the clutch, however the clutch and slave cylinder were replaced when the engine was about 2,000 (or less) miles ago. and this problem didn't exist 3 days when the car went in the shop to have the speed sensor, o2 sensor, EGR Valve/tube/pipe, and gas filter replaced. So this problem is a result of something they did I would think. The problem only started immediately when I got the car back from the shop.
They also said the smell is probably from the new pipe that was installed. (ofcourse they said this without going near the car or anything either) apparently testing the car isn't part of the procedure at this place. If they don't have it fixed by the end of the day, I will be taking it somewhere else and researching what complaints I can file.

First off I wouldn't take my car to any tech that isn't going to take a look at what's wrong with my car. Least of all just spilling out problems that he/she has yet to test. Sounds kinda fishy don't you think?
I've had this problem before also and it went away after I replaced my clutch. The the not so goo dpart is how you say it didn't happen before you got all that other stuff replaced. Having those items replaced shouldn't be causing it to burn. After installing new tubes I've never smelled any buring before.

i had two seperate cars where the shaft that connects to the clutch fork got gummed up in the housing. two seperate clutches burnt out. it feels and acts like it is engaging but if it is sticking at all it will be slow to engage, thus giving the symptoms you are having

if it is the clutch after finding everything out, i would get all over the shop about the clutch, cause if it was fine when you took it in, and then it was gone when you got it back it sounds like someone has been playing in your car.

Agreed, I think someone was beating the snot out of it while you were gone, probably trying to do burnouts with it and just ripped the clutch all to hell. Common sense says if the clutch and slave are new, and the master is original, that the older master could now be failing, but still... I think it was beaten. Next time write down your odometer reading out of sight before you drop off the car.

Well they kinda fixed it, said it was the timing, and the PCV valve, it was better, but still not perfect. I then took it to FieroJon and he found the oil leak that it was having, and fixed that. He also found the incorrect sparkplug or distributor cap wire ( I don't know these things so well) and fixed that too, now the car is running much much better, and no hesitation. This was my first time dealing with FieroJon and it was great, he seems to be an excellent mechanic, very friendly and easy to get along with, he explains every step and I really felt totally comfortable with him working on my car. I am working on future appointments with him to get more work done on my car (it needs alot). I would definately highly recommend him to everyone.
