Damn those crazy bastards from Top Secret, they do everything, they did an 800hp VG30DET in a 350Z.

Why would you remove a 2JZE and put in an RB, the 2JZ is stronger, has more displacement, and if you ask me, the better of the two...................................Maybe just for props.

And not to mention, you don't have to import a 2JZ.

Yeah, to me it seems pointless and stupid, instead of switching to an RB they could have made a monster 2JZ.
logik23
10-30-2004, 05:12 PM
They didn't have to import it, Top Secret is a Japanese company. They did it to show that they can do anything. And RBs are cooler then 2JZs.

i dont know why they did it.. pointless.
everyone knows the 2jz is a better motor.

I would much rather see them dump all the money from the swap into the 2JZ. 2JZ over an RB anyday. A 2JZ mated to the AWD Skyline drivetrain would be something to see.
logik23

Anyone can dump money into a 2JZ, they wanted to do something that was never done!!!

Except for people that don't have the money and only get to watch other people do it. Kinda like nerds that watch porn.

Look, if you had tons of money, would you do something unique or something that everyone with cash does?
nissanfanatic
10-31-2004, 12:09 AM
No matter how many times someone builds a supra or a SR, when you do it, it is unique in its own way. I would build a 2JZ for sure. People with tons of cash typically do the same cliche shit that every rich douchebag does and gets a Z06 or a Viper. A supra is the first car I would buy if I had the money.

10-31-2004, 12:41 AM
Ok, let me rephrase that, would you do something unique and be cool or be a bandwagon pussy and build up a 2JZ?

I remember a rep from Top Secret saying that they liked the RB's high-rev capability, and wanted to combine that with the Supra's more aerodynamic body. Makes sense.

even though the 2JZ is more robust of an engine ( in stock gise) . the RB is more of a engineering marvel. i mean that engine has the capabililty to rev to near 15K. it has a much much much much more flexable power band. where a supra can rev to around 8.5K. that mixed with a single large turbo your only goin to have around 4K of usable power. meanwhile a high reving RB will have atleast 6K of usable redline. you can stay in gear much much longer esp before you hit the apex of a corner ( where you would be either forced to stay in gear cause your hitting red, or be forced up shift then downshift again in the 2JZ). also the RB has 6 throttle bodies, and variable cam timing. so all those advantages are the stuff that the 2JZ simply doesn't have. also why would a company like htat put in a stock RB anyways? the RB with internals can support over 1300 AWD whp. just look at wario whos putting down almsot 900KW on there R33 reving to 13K.
those traits added with the supra's superior aerodynamics is should be a monster on the top end like crazy.
IMO the 2JZ is a very very nice engine, and deserves its own merrit for being robust ( thats the only thing its good at ). while the RB in my opinion is the king of turbo 6's for a japanese engine. put internals in both and the RB will put the 2JZ to shame. the only limiting factor in the Wangan is that the GT-R's boxy shape which requires alot more hp to go as fast as a supra with around 200 less hp.
my 2 cents.

Now Tatt, that was some good info that I never knew, I always thought the 2JZ was better than the RB, guess I was wrong, good back up to your stements unlike Logik, sure, makes a lot of sense to be uniques, I think I'll put a Chevy small block in my brand new cobra R just caus I got cash...............
unique and pointless can sometimes go hand in hand, if it wasn't for Tatts' explanation, then it would still be pointless to do it.

no problem. of course being unique is probrably part of the motivation behind it. but of course hes not goin to just pick any engine. if your goin to be unique atleast pick a engine that could perhaps improve performance. i mean Signal Auto even was able to swap in a NSX v6 into the front of a chop top Civic hatch. they are the first company in japan that has figured out how to do the tranny linkage. of course its a secret, and i would really like to now they get the car to shift properly.

That would be cool but I hate FWD, and the only cheap mid engine RWD out there is the MR2, but they've got small engine compartments and I hate the way the new ones look. I would like to very much have a mid engine RWD car.
Toksin

They did it to be unique, among other reasons. Japanese tuning shops are funny like that. Hell, one even turned a CRX Del Sol into a mid engine RWD car. Crazy.

Yeah, I think Jap tunners got too much time on their hands and nothing new cuz I saw a 2JZ powered R34, now what what was the point of that if the RB has better performance capabilities???????????

maybe they put the 2jz in the skyline? would be pretty sick

i guess they do it just because they can.....im sure they just have engines laying around, then they hit the happy plant, and ideas just start flowing and walla they do it. But in all honesty who fucking cares if there is no point to it...there a fucking company, what else can they do? Didnt they just recently drop a sr20 in a 350z?????

The 2JZ has different characteristics that the owner wanted. Maybe they wanted more torque.
Why would Top Secret put a VQ in an R34? Well, they did. Apparently there was something they wanted from the VQ that the RB couldn't offer. Less weight, better weight distribution, more torque, who knows.

That was purposeful, the sr gave the 350Z better weight dist. since it is alot lighter and shorter than the VQ.
