quick questoin.on my 90 crx. i just open up my head cylinder today. and when i got to check out the camshaft. it broke in half. now my question is, my friend got a 89 honda civic sedan (4drs). he use that car as parts, and i bought a camshaft from him. i spend my afternoon trying to replace my old camshaft wit this new one. but the thing is that. when i put on the timing belt. it wont fit.i compare my old cam gear wit this one, the old one seem lil bit smaller than this one. what do i do to make it fit and run again? thank you

I assume you can't swap the cam gear?

get the timing belt off of the civic,or a new one,
it should fit,
(their both hondas 88-91 & both is very simular)
& take it to a shop to have the timing correct unless you know what your doin'
(I have a 1990 civic camshaft in perfect condition,I'm not forshore about if its bigger or smaller, but if interested pm me)

what the hell, you said you took it out and replaced it but the cam gear was too big to fit under the timing belt. Torque wrench isnt made to disassemble stuff anyway, its a measuring decivce to slowly tighten a bolt down to a certain point.

and how the fuck do you break a cam in half?

That's a good question. I'd use a impact wrench to get that bolt off without disturbing everything. GL

remove the spark plug wires, from the top of the valve cover,
remeber what order they go in,
take the valve cover off,4 bolts,10mm socket,
take the distributor off,3 bolts!,12mm wrench,
(make a line on the top of the distributor to the head,so you dont lose where your timing was)
take the timing belt cover off,2 bolts, dont lose the gaskets,
dont need to replace it,
make 3 marks,(on the belt & cam)
so you know where the timing chain was originally
loosen the timing belt, remove the belt to the side,
to take the rocker arm assembly off (to get to the cam),
start from the timing belt side & lossen just the 2 bolts
(holding the assembly down),
then the other 2 bolts & so on,
(make shore you do it this way,or you could crack the assembly)
while moving toward the distributor,
give a little shake & the assembly should pop off,
you can now remove the stock broken cam to insert the nice bigger one!
when putting the rocker arm assembly bolts back in,oil will seep up around the bolts,
clean it off, screw it down, take it back out,do it again,
until all the oils gone,if oils left in it,when the motor gets hot it swells up,
it could crack every piece under that crankcase,
use a torque wrench to tighten the bolts to the manufacturers settings,
put the dizzy back on,timing cover, valve cover & start up,
I've done this 2 times, but never with a bigger cam,
thats where a professional or shop comes in to play,
why wouldn't a torque wrench not work?

(sorry for the long post, kind of got carried away....)

thnx for the info dude. i'll try that tomor. torque wrench wont work, cus the cam is to much tight, and the cam is off with the camshaft. so if i use the torque wrench to take the cam off, i have nothing to hold the camshaft steady or tight to torque it off.

and how the fuck do you break a cam in half?

i dono how i break it. prob less oil i guess. i'll take a pic of it and i'll post it here. it suks tho

the cam gears are the same size thats obviously not the problem. you dont have something tightened right, or you're using the incorrect timing belt.

buy some aftermarket cams, sprockets and new belt and have new stuff and more hp
