Just purchased an 04 tb and I would like to know where the oil filter and oil pan plug is. I was looking under the tb and could not see it.

Sounds like you have the skid package. If you look up under the front, you should see a panel (roughly 6x9) screwed into the engine skid plate , unsrew this panel and there you will found the filter & plug!

Thanks Chris

Thanks Chris for the reply. I'll check it out. Looked on the window sticker and it is not listed as option or standard equip.. I have an LT. Are skid plates standard on LT's.

Not sure if it is standard or not. I am overseas and they still have LTZ's here, mines a 04 LTZ 4x4. If I remeber correctly the LT took the place of the LTZ, so it might be standard now. When you look under the engine and if all you see is a big piece of black plastic covering the underside of the engine then you have it. If you did not have it you would definatley see the oil drain plug stocking out the bottom of the oil pan.

Thanks Chris

thanks for the help Chris. a friend has a LTZ 03 and said that was the last year for the LTZ's. Now I will have to tell him not everywhere.LOL.
I will get under mine again and see what I can find. I am going to put on a set of oem running boards Monday. got them on ebay, they were take offs from a new TB. I change my on oil on all my vehicles and pull minor maintenance tasks. save me some bucks. so again thanks for your replies.

Well....I don't know about that.

I have a 2004 TB EXT LS, which is basically a stripper, and it has this "skidplate" under the engine. There isn't one under the gs tank though, so I don't think it has the package. Maybe this is a standard for 04 plate under the motor? My guess is that there would be TONS of problems with the drainplug hanging straight down like it is.

And for the original poster...the oil filter is on the front passenger side of the motor. You have to snake your hand up through the opening in the "skidplate" to get at it. Even so, it drops tons of oil all over the bottom of the chassis..... :(

Thanks Ikurek, that's the information I was looking for. I took off the small panel and saw the oil pan bolt but not the filter. now I understand I am going to have to work my arm up to the filter. Sounds messy..

Best thing to do when changing the oil is getting a plastic bag, first losen the filter just enough so you don't break the seal but you can turn it by hand. Then place a bag over the oil filter and turn the filter loose through the bag. I have been doing this every oil change and it works great. Sure beats oil dripping everywhere on the plastic under carriage.

folks the plastic skid plate is standard on all the trailblazer, to create less of a mess, just remove the plastic skid plate when changing your oil , it is just held in by four bolts.

as far as the filter goes , one of two things:
1. turn the wheel all the way to the right and that will give u alittle more room
2. take the wheel off then u will no problem with the mess
