what is the best way to test the coil ...also the is a small green wire coming off of the coil but it is cut off and hanging. Where does it go?

They usually start to leak oil when they go bad. One wire should go to the ignition while the other goes to the distributor. You also hook tachometers up to the distributor side of the coil. Hook up the wires and then test for fire.
