Grinding Noise on Aurora

I have a 1998 Olds Aurora. A few weeks ago it started making a grinding/humming noise when car reaches 25mph. Gets louder the faster I go and worse when turning to right. Replaced driver side wheel bearing but noise is still there. No better. Any thoughts. I'm hearing from some people it might be tranny or cv joints. Help!

bump... same problem but on mine it gets worse when i turn to the left. REALLY loud between 50-60mph goes away till 85, and 90+ really loud. it goes away when I go slighty to the right. wheel bearing? Easy to replace?

I had the same problem. A whining sound. Worst when turning right. thought it was a belt or something slipping. Finally realized it was the mud guard that was stuck on the tire. I guess when I back up to park the car in a snow bank, the mud guard must have come loose and jammed on the tire. Pushed it off and reattached the bottom portion. Work well now.

Mine turned out to be wheel bearing. Replaced one, then replaced the other. Noise is gone.

These baby's use full preloaded hubs, with the ABS
sensor in them already. GM parts-direct has OEM
(7470511) for $133/ea. NAPA is $159/ea.
Partsamerica is $138/ea for the lower end and
$158/ea for the upper end.

There are 3 bolts that hold these on. You pulled the
brakes and rotor, unplug the abs sensor, remove the
3 bolts and slip the whole thing off the car. Installation
is just the reverse.

same thing on my 95 Aurora... turning left would make the noise... so I figured passenger side.. wrong.. turns out it was the drivers side... $125 from hovis with my discount from my friends there... replaced in about an hour to 2 by myself... pretty simple job.

I'm having the same problem, going to my local shop today to try and find out which side it is. I quit my job a week ago so my fundage is running short. I might afford two new bearing hub assemblies, but id rather not. My questions are?

-How "unrecomended" is it to go with a junkyard unit?

-Should I replace both?

-How often do these things go, i've put about 25000 miles on her in the 9 months since purchase from a cross-country trip and lots of highway driving to work on it which brings it to 135000?

-If I should buy it new, is there a quality difference? OEM from GM would seem to be the best, no?

i have a 2001, and i got my new wheel bearing hub assembly from my local Auto Zone, it ran me $131 and some change with tax! And mine, when i turned to the left, it went away, and it was the left front bearing! So i'm assuming which ever way you turn and it goes away, then that is the one thats bad, don't quote me on that but i would imagine!!

I opted for a new Hub. I went to autozone and got the Timken brand which was $20 more. I've put more than a few miles on it now since it started making the noise last week and now it's louder and grinding. I hope that the unit comes out nicely. My major concern now is the condition of the other side. BTW its obvious to me now that it is the right side, and when I turn to the right the noise goes away. There may be something to the theory; that whichever direction you turn that shuts it up, thats the side which is gone.
