ok the car has been sitting for about 5 months or so with the front end jacked up on jack stands. I just finished my auto to manual conversion and had to buy a different starter. I put it in and started it, it started up, and was running really rough, I had to keep my foot on the gas to keep it running, then it died when I let go. I started it again, and I had to hold the gas even harder to keep it running (only at like 1000 RPM), and then I heard either 2 clunks or 2 backfires couldnt tell, so i let off and it died. Now it just turns over and doesnt start, or it gives one puff and a backfire/clunk (idk) every now and then. Anyone have any clue what the heck is wrong?? (ran fine when I started the project)

Just a quick guess...did you by chance forget to plug the MAS sensor clip back in?

Yeah I remembered to plug the MAS in. The guy at Autozone said that because it was sitting for so long the spark plugs may have been fouled, and because I kept trying to start it, fuel may have fouled the oil! But the oil is brand new, and I don't see how the spark plugs are fouled if it started at first (unless they just had a really weak spark??). Any other idea's? Theres one plug on the back of the block that is hanging down, but I don't see where it could go, its a black wire on the upper left (driver) side of the block. Also, when I did have it running the gauge showed no oil pressure (main reason I shut it off).

nope, he didn't have time to, I just took a volt meter the shift control plug on the transmission and figured out which terminals needed to be crossed.

Well the guy at autozone was completely right, oil smelled like gas and I took out the spark plugs and they where gunked up w/ oil and gas...so I replaced them, changed the oil, and while I had the intake off I cleaned that out too, was black inside, now it shines. Anywayz it started right up and runs great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOHOO!!!!!! and the 5-speed shifts great tooo!!!!!! but I need to do some more clutch line bleeding then it'll be mint! GO ME!
