What besides the engine is going to be damaged by doing huge smokey burnouts in a civic. Also, do any of you guys have pics of your 4th gen doin burnouts?

I'v busted chunks out of the concreete in my carport doing a burnout, not in a civic though. Think I do have a picture though...

edit: found picture. Its not that good quality, but the white pieces are where the tire accually ripped up pieces of the concrete.

burnouts can destroy your differential. bouncing off the rev limiter can damage the engine from high revs and a lean condition from fuel cut, causing detonation and ultimately destruction of the engine in long term. Burnouts can and will also destroy your front suspension i.e. ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, etc. in the long term.

a couple wont hurt, but dont do it all the time and learn how to do a proper burn out.

by proper i mean DO NOT EVER DUMP THE CLUTCH IN A CAR

hmm i saw this about an hour ago and i said WTF???? come on if you know anything about cars, did you ever think maybe your clutch??? I dont know its almost like one of those given facts. Or maybe your transmissions,

Think about it engine spinning at 7,000, tranny not, clutch in middle, engine forces tranny to go fast.... hmmmm..something is not meant to be.

Yeah you could def. blow out a differental.....or maybe 2....hmmm who could that be?

Just wandering, what's wrong with dumping your clutch? I have a fairly new clutch in my CRX. Once I revved it up to 3000rpms with the clutch presed in and the tranny in 1st, and I just let it go. My wheels were spinning all the way through 1st. What's wrong with doing this? Does this wear out the clutch?

I owned a vw golf, It did the sickest burnouts, but it causes a lot of damage, to pretty much everything.

It aint to bad if the ground is wet and it's in the low rpm's, but on dry road it causes a lot of damage cuz the tires aren't slipping, and your motor is forcing itself to make them spin,

my advice is just don't do it period!

The clutch dropping is the cause for everything else to break, think of everything in your drivetrain is standing still, then for everything to be slammed in to 3-7 thousands rpms instantly, can cause major damage. The power has to go from the transmission, flywheel, to the clutch, then the axles, and in to the hubs, EVERYTHING all at once gets beat to hell, it's like pushing an egg to the end of a table with your fingers, or hitting it as hard as you can with a bat, what do you think will happen?

well like 91civicdude said...a few won't hurt, just don't make a habbit out of it and try not to dump the clutch, get everything moving a bit first before you let out on the clutch..and if you like your tires, you will learn the hard way that burnouts are expensive.

I tend not to do this very much but its cool as shit plus I have a daily driver.

I can shift into 2nd and spin them with smoke immediately appearing and they spin until I let off or the clutch starts slippin which isnt good. The car is off the road right now being overhauled you could say but she can only expect burnouts to be done at the track when she is finished.

My axle boots are completely torn, I have broken the motor mount mount? the rear one its bolted to the rear crossmember, the bolt broke and the motor hits the firewall.

burnouts are fun but can cause serious damage especially if you have some power.

TheSilentChamber
10-29-2004, 08:20 PM
From what I'v seen burnouts are more dangerus if you dont have power because you have to get in a high rpm range and everything is working harder just to try to break traction.

the one where the wheels stopped???
thats cuz the angle of the pic i think, or it was the one where he got the pic as i was shifting to 2nd :)

whats wrong with burnouts????????

91civicDXdude

to properly do a burnout, rev the engine up to about 3-4000 rpm and slip the clutch out while stomping the gas. this gradually puts pressure on the drivetrain, lessening the chance of something breaking.

If your car cant smoke the tires off from 3-4000 rpm without dumping the clutch, then your car doesnt have the power to do a burnout.

i think i'm done with burnouts for awhile.

do peel outs its squeeking the tires when you are moving no smoke but the tires are spinning and you are actually moving which is fun the you can fishtail every where without much damage or buy a car for a couple hundred bucks do a huge burnout and then part it out.

I put my 13's on when I go to the track,
I know I spin more, but its better then having them 17s on,
I can burn out in the 17's tho,
make white smoke.....no squeal....
but it kills me everytime I do it
(somtimes I'll start to hop)
