Starting gripe

My car will only start the second time I try. There have been a few instances when it's started right on cue....but the majority of the time it's turning over but not starting. Then, I turn it off, on again and it starts...and it's not a HUGE problem as long as it starts, but I know it's probably leading to a stranded situation....any ideas?

don't say fuel pump.

Sounds like either a fuel pressure problem or something in the ignition system messing up. Have the guys from work use a ignition system tester and then a fuel pressure gauge. Should reveal a problem

Your optispark might very well be going. I think mine finally is - we've suspected its the likely cause of a misfire problem and now the motor has become harder to turn over. I basically have to crank it 1-2 seconds quickly, turn it off, then crank again and she'll start up ok - otherwise I can keep cranking for 20+ seconds on the first try without it turning over. I've seen it coming considering the opti has been swimming in oil for over 3 years - hey, maybe thats an optispark endurance record or something??? :grinno:

It could be the fuel pump relay also. But my suspicion is the fuel pump. I actually had three cars, actually one car and one truck and an RV that did the same thing you are talking about. When you cycle the key on and then off then on again, each time it gives a squirt of gas. The pump may not be putting out enough pressure to start on one cycle. Hope its the relay since dropping the tank is costly!!!!

or it very well could be the fact that when she wasnt lookin i stole her gas cap...
