I'd like to have people's opinions on what type of eclipse i should aim for. This is gonna be my first car and i do want to modify it, but i'm not sure what year or model i should go for... I DO know that i want it to be 96-99 5-spd. Any suggestions? While we're at it... could someone explain to the newbie what difference is b/w 1st and 2nd gen? I looked but couldnt find it. :banghead:

Go to DSMTuners.com and look at the model guide.

Well if you got the money then i would go for a gsx. A gst is good too, but if you got a good deal on both then the gsx would be a better choice. As for the year, it all depends on the deal. A 99 would be great thats if you got one for a reasonable price.
As for the 1g and 2g differences, the FAQ would prob help explain the answer better. Here is the link: Link to 1000 AAQ (http://members.shaw.ca/costall/1000Q/)
Good Luck!

The 97-99 Gsx would probably be the way to go. I have a 96 Gsx and it runs great but the newer models are suppost to have less chance of walking or some crap =(! *Hates new Models* So! GsX is the way to go and if not then a gst!

i would go with a 92 rs with no options with at least 165,000 miles on it and then throw one of those turbonator things in your intake, and ya got em owned

i personaly would go with a 91-93 1g eclipse gsx. it would be cheaper and better for power after you "modify" it. good luck

I would go for the 97-99 eclipse and get A 1g head and then you will be faster than the 1g well maybe the 1g weighs less and get a cyclone intake manifold you'll be doing well just for a start

it would be cheaper and fast to go with a 1g eclipse!

it would be cheaper to go with the 1g but they come with the same amount of hp so the 1g head and the manifold on the 2g would put you at least a 250hp and that is on the t25 with out a boost controller i think that it would be worth the money to go with the 2g that is what i am going to do any way.

1G's are cheaper to modify, but the 2G's can be found in better condition. If you get a good deal, GSX or GS-T would suffice. However, it all depends on HOW much you want the price to be to modify it. 1st gen is cheaper to buy and modfiy, but you cant go wrong with a 2G in great condition :iceslolan I would say to try as hard for a GSX, but the ones in 97-99 cant be found easily in great condition...

i got my gsx for 9 its in great condition it was owned by an older woman the only thing that they shouldnt have done is they put a flow master on it hoping for more power but that kills my high end power so im going to take it off when i get my exhaust

i think that the 1g,s are only cheaper to mod if they were made before 93 they are the ones with the good internals but after that they have the same as 94-99.

The 1g E/T/Ls came with 195hp, the 2g with 210. Have you dyno tested your theoretical 40hp gain from a 1g head, or are you talking out of your ass?

 Ok 1g and 2g dont come with the same hp stock. Check the FAQ if you dont know something. And i dont think that what you said would be even close to 250. Please think before you just start typing.
