Frequent lamp burn-out

Just curious...we've replaced both headlamps and a taillamp on our 2000 1.8T Passat; just rolled over 60,000 miles. We also had to have a tiny instrument bulb replaced behind our heat/air controls. My '95 Mustang GT has never needed any replacement bulbs beyond license plate bulbs. Approaching 100K miles on it.
I see lots of one-eyed Volkswagens rolling down the freeways. Are these cars susceptible to early bulb death? Any experiences to share?

I have a 2001 Passat that I otherwise love. However I had 1 daytime running light and one rear light burn out recently. Previously I had to change the other front daytime light. I never had this happen in any other car!
