I love tailgaters. I was coming home at about 11:00pm Thursday and this dickhead was on my ass and sure enough a car in front of me hit the brakes and i did but the dickhead behind me hesitated and smack right into my bumper. It's dented and crack to all hell so I need a new one. Instead of just getting the stock bumper I'm just gonna buy a fiber glass one. Any tips on what to look for when buying body kits?

Is the dude that hit you paying for it?

Did you call the cops? Even if you're still is "no fault", you can still get like $500 form his insurance company. Find an expensive body shop, get a qoute from them, get money from his insurance, and buy a body kit.

I'd have it checked out by a body shop, being rear ended hard enough to mess up the bumper can accually warp your car, expecially hatches because they have the lease structure to stiffen them.

Yeah most definatly get your car checked out, one place in particular is the rear cross member, if it bent or ripped it needs taken care of... and isn't your neck sore ;)

He had no insurance so we agreed that he would pay for the stuff today. So we went to a body shop to have it qouted and they said about $800. So he wrote me off a check and I cashed it. So now I can use that to fix it or just a body kit instead.

Was it just the bumper that was damaged? $800 just for a bumper seems like a lot.

Go to the junkyard, get a bumper, then get it sprayed for $100 or so. There ya go, just made some extra cash :-D

An accident is actually a pretty good time to get a body kit. Instead of spending money on a factory bumper, you can get a body kit for not much more.

An aftermarket bumper will allways be cheeper than ordering an OEM one from factory.

I would go with urethane instead of fiberglass, much more durable
TheSilentChamber

urethane is definatly not more durable than fiberglass, its just more flexable.

I disagree, Just last week i went to far over a parking stop, backed off and tore the bumper halfway off, only broke the plastic that mount bumper to fender, would have trashed fiberglass

I dont know who's shitty fiberglass you've been seeing. I'v bottomed my bumper out on a speed bump going about 30mph and it didnt do anything to it.

My friends integra had a buddy club(dont know if ther any good or not) and the damn thing fell apart every time he hit something. I have personaly been hit/hit something 3 times in the front and once in the rear. 2 of the times I am 99% sure that fiberglass would not have held up. I think that fiber glass would break before the bumper mounts on the fender.

well, the fiberglass stuff I'm going to be selling is alot higher quality than that.

Thats cool, when I say durability im not talking about normal driving. Im talking about hitting things or things hitting you. In that aspect urethane is more durable. Im not saying there is anything wrong with fiberglass.

That is completely false, try hitting a tire on a freeway with a urethane WW bumper vs. a fiberglass one, we'll see which one will go to pieces..

was behing an 18 wheeler and one of his tires poped and went into pieces and I hit it doing about 65, didnt break. Problem with urethane is that its designed to be flexable, paint is not designed to be flexable so If you do hit something you'll more than likely have to have it repainted. If your fiberglass is good quality and laminated right it wont flex enough to mess up the paint and it will be strong enough to survive impact.

Yea thats the only thing thats ever happened to my fiberglass body kit hit a bump back up and it yanks it off no damage done besides the bolt holes craked out but easy fix..Now i have had my rear end peice on my 91 integra come flying off running about 55-60 and it fliped about i would say a good 20 times didnt crak it or split it all it got was road rash not bad for fiberglass it is pretty good i think..But i wouldnt mind having a urethane kit in the future..

When I get DeviantMotorsports up I'll have pictures showing the quality of my fiberglass parts, like a picture of the car sitting on the ground being supported by nothing but the side skirts. I dont think theres any other ones on the market that can offer that.

that's not durability, that's stupidity!
Eurathane is more forgiving, but fiberglass is easier to work with and cheaper... to each his own i guess.

Its kinda sad that companys charge more for urathane, its accually cheeper and less time consuming to make. Once I get my DeviantMotorsports up and going and running good I'll probably offer eurathane in addition to all the other composites.

The thing I loved about my fiberglass front bumper is if it did break I could always repair and repaint it.
