How many times have you been pulled while driving a mustang? Where you targeted as a speeder or were you actually speeding?

i have had my 99 cobra (white) for about 5 months and i have never been pulled. i just dont see the point in speeding, but sometimes i do accelerate quite hard.

usually if you drive normally they wont' bother you, it's when you start driving like an asshole that they start targeting you.

Mmmm... yes... normally thats what cops r suppose to do, pull over "dangerous" drivers :s . i have had my GT for 3 months and no, i have never been pulled over, and i do speed all the time, i just dont come across any cops. i live in houston by the way, i guess that depending on the city/state some have more cops than others. i dont even have a radar detector although i am planning to get one just to be a little bit safer. i live like 30 miles north of houston so every time i have to go downtown i dont really look forward to the 45 minute drive, usually with light traffic i go 120+mph and get there in half the time. i usually have to put more gas in it once i get to wherever im going but i dont mind paying 5 bucks worth of gas for saving me 20 minutes on the road and the fun. (lets admit it, driving fast IS fun :D ) thats not even counting the times i come across another car that wants to race. one night comming back home from the club an accord flew past me so i cought up and that was the time that ive pushed the car the most, i did 135 mph. i guess im very lucky to have been doin that so often and not get pulled over once.

Its just that usually you hear cops target mustangs and they get pulled more. Everyone say because they stand out more and they standout over other cars.

With speed or any performance vehicle there comes responsibility. You can't race everybody, just not worth it. Are we gonna drive fast sometimes sure, if we were't we'd be driving escorts. Be smart, buckle up and try to save MOST the racing for the track.

I just drove from WA to MI and back. Got pulled 4 times the whole trip. Tint was too dark (got out of that one cuz he was stupid and pulled me at night, I said everyone's tint is too dark at night) speakers too loud (got out of that one cuz I was on the freeway, who cares there..) 85 in a 75 (ticketed, $20, stupid montana gas tickets) "exhibition of speed" (burnout in parking lot, written warning) Most times we as mustang owners get pulled, it's not because of profiling. But having worked with police before, I know profiling does exist no matter how much they deny it to the civilian public. Big cities are worse than small towns because they have plenty of drivers to choose from to fill quotas. They're looking for caucasian males 20 - 25, loud stereo's, tint and custom paint are a plus, and exhibition of speed is a fast growing offense. IF you just HAVE to bust a donut in the KMart parking lot, watch for police, they are everywhere. just my $0.02

Gas tickets?

Montana doesn't really enforce their speed limits. But they still have to have posted speed limits in order to receive federal DOT funding. having the speed limit as high as it is increases the tax the state pays for fuel. So what they do is pick on an occasional speeder and give them a BS ticket for speeding. You don't have to go to court, there are no points on your license, and the DMV is only contacted if you fail to pay. In which case like a normal ticket, a bench warrant is issued for you. You get the ticket, it'll be like $10 - $20. You can either pay them on the spot, or send a check or money order to the offended district. This money goes towards the price of fuel to keep it lower at the pumps. Hence Gas Tickets.

I heard there is no speed limit in Montana, they do but its not enforced because everything is space out and so far apart that speeding is allowed to get where you are going quicker. Is this true?

Amateurs....

nitrous36: It's not true. There is a speed limit in Montana but it's pretty high. Montana has at times had an "unlimited speed limit". As recently as 5 years ago (when the nation put an end to the 55 limit) it's interstate speed limit signs read: "Reasonable and Prudent". But people took too much advantage of it so they changed it to 75.

Bigbob, don't feel bad. I got my first speeding ticket when I was 15!! I had my learners permit and was with my mom! 11 over. 1 month after I turned 16 I got a wreckless driving ticket (reduced to negligent due solely to my age) for going through 5 red lights in a row (Hey, I stopped at each one first. It was Holloween night and we were having an "egg war" with another car that escaped my fate.) That night was a double edged sword... I felt terrible about the ticket and the hefty fine hurt but I found that night I had a real nack for driving. The car was loaded with my friends and they were very impressed (who of course encouraged me at every opportunity!). I performed driving stunts which I found out later that they actually have names for!! Anyway, both incidents were in my mom's 68 Coupe w/ 390. I've probably gotten about 20 speeding tickets in 5 different states in my life. My last ticket was 14 years ago. I was on my Honda V65 motorcycle and was drunk as hell. I wiped out into a fire hydrant (pretty stupid huh?). Well the total cost of that was high. Ruined 6 thousand dollar bike. 1,800 hundred dollar DWI fine. Drug abuse counselling costs - several hundred. High insurance, and to top it off...30,000 dollar hospital bill and a 13 inch steel plate in my leg. Took me 10 years to pay that off. GUESS WHAT! I haven't had a ticket since. The most I "push the law" now it about 8 over. I have some cop friends now and they all say 10 is "usually" the magic number (highway).

Gonna get preachy here...

Take it from me, it's not cool to get tickets or drive fast on public roads. If you want to drive fast... race cars legally. Go to a local drag strip and race. Most places have one within 100 miles. Trust me... when you want to settle down you'll get damn sick of paying 200 plus a month for SR 22 liability insurance on a clunker.

I'm not an idiot as this post might relay. I've just made some very stupid decisions. I know for a fact I'm a better driver than most on the road these days but other than an occasional lead foot on long trips, I'm very law abiding. I also know for a fact I'm very lucky to be alive and all in one piece. And thank god I didn't hurt or worse... kill anyone. "Cool" driving is really "dumbshit" driving. And under many circumstances, speeding is dumbshit driving too.

Oh, BTW Simioh:

Radar detectors are over-rated. Yes they have saved my ass on more than one occasion but they can also give a false sense of security. One time while driving at night I was doing 12 over and saw a car coming but my detector was silent. As that car went by me BUZZZZZZ. Busted. eighty bucks (around 1988...much more now I'll bet).

Considering my previous post I'm going to sound like a hypocrite but I personally don't consider mild highway speeding THAT dangerous. Especially if you're an aware driver (notice I didn't say "good"). However, the COPS DO!!

Here's some tips on how to avoid a speeding ticket on the highway (ONLY!!). If you speed in town you get what you deserve.

1. Don't speed.
2. Get a QUALITY radar detector but realize it's not fool proof.
3. If you see a car coming at you in the distance, slow down.
4. Watch for State Patrol at on-ramps... in other words slow down while passing on-ramps
5. Stay out of the fast lane except when passing.
6. When possible only go about 6 miles an hour faster than the car you're passing.
7. Change lanes gradually.
8. Sometimes you can get away with not getting picked up on radar when you're next to or near a big rig. The older style radars tend to pick up the biggest rig. NOT the new lasers however! They'll nail you anyway.
9. Watch for signals from drivers coming the other way. A trucker saved my butt from getting a 10 over once when I noticed him flashing his lights. Sure enough about 2 miles down the road Smokey was sitting in wait.
10. The car you drive DOES attract attention. If you're in a Shelby expect to be watched much more than if you're in Dad's boat.
11. Keep one eye on the sky! Smokey is up there too. Good driving means shifting your eyes to different views contantly and knowing everything that is around you. Do it.
12. Don't go more than 9 over. Even if you do get stopped, you'll (probably) get off with a warning. (I may have not gotten a ticket in 14 years but I've had several warnings :) Usually for 8 or 9 over... Once for 5 over!!)

I probably missed a few.

haha thanks for the tips. i have a funny story{kinda odd} the only tiem i got off with a warning was wehn i was an ass to the cop. he comes up after nabing me for10 over but it was a downt town area with a decrease in speed limit and he was 50ft away for the speen limit change. he comes up to the window and i have my info for him already, he says"ya done this before son" i said a few times. he smirked and asked if i new the speed limit in there, {being a smart ass i said}'if i new that we wouldnt be having this conversation now would we", he walked back to his car, came back a few later with a writen warning and said he let me go cuz he liked me. ha i didnt no what to think. a punk 16yr old in a red drop top gt geting off a ticket, didnt think it was possible. especially with her as shiny as she is, draws a lota ateention, enoguh wax to stop a bullet

I have been pulled over 7 times, for various offenses.
1. Out of date registration
2. License plate light not working
3. Trailer Lights out
List goes on. The big boo-boo was doing 75 in a 55 in my old '88 Dodge caravan (250k!!!) back in the day (17 years old). Little did I know that doing 65 on the speedo it was actually 75ish. The cop said "your vehicle is very unsafe at any speed over 55.... blah-blah"

The key is to drive the right car, I have a '94 Grand Marquis for my daily driver now and I drive 5-10 over everywhere, and average 75-80 on the freeway, and never even had a hassle at all. The enforcement limit for my county, quoted from a State patrol, is 14-16 over the speed limit.

It also helps that my ride looks identical to an undercover cop car, steelies and black walls. Good for scaring other speeders....

Drive safe, and it just doesn't pay to do 130 on a freeway with other people. Find a lonely, open country road, or better yet, a race track, and have your fun there.

Too many kids kill themselves driving like assholes, and even though I have driven over 45k in my 3 year driving career without an accident I still have to pay absurd insurance rates because of them.

I had a 89 probe never got a ticket for the year I had it. Got my 94 mustang got 3 in the first year. One was on the highway 85 in a 65 in georgia but the funny thing was I was between two cars and we were all speeding but he pulled up next to me and signaled me over. 165$

One I got for 16 over though I was only doing 10 over and he wouldn't let me see his radar gun. He did say my v6 was fast though:)(warning me about driving fast cars. I couldn't go to court because of an exam. Ive heard that if they don't have it on there gun to show you they can't ticket you but I don't know if thats true.85$

And the last one I got on new years eve for not stopping "all the way" at a one way stop sign at night and the only car coming the opposite way I was going was a cop and she popped a U turn and pulled me over.85$ + driving school. I've never gotten a warning though. haven't been pulled over in about 2 years now so thats good.
