944 smell trouble...

hy, i have a littlke question for you,,, when i'm running my 1983 944, it have a bad smell of exhaust,, not like the fuel,, but like exhaust in the car,, do you think is my catalitic convert?? or a bad oxygene sensor,, its like the car run to rich,,,

First off it would help if you would type...and second on average of 7 out of 10 times in this kind of situation its the cc. If you cant do it yourself just take it to a repair shop and let them check it. If its not the cc try changing the piston rings...on some cars worn rings create a kinda nasty exhaust and that may be where the smell is coming from.

Before you go changing your rings?, make sure the rear hatch is correct, and isn't out of alignment, or the seal isn't worn, as these would both let exhaust fumes into the car.

If its the seal then he could do that himself intead of taking it to a shop.

BlueBoy, dont I remember you asking this similar question back several months ago? Did you inspect the seal under the bonnet just forward of the battery/fusebox?

I also see what your saying about the O2 sensor, These folks are learning me that too..... if INOP then could cause a possible rich running feature.

I had the tube (diagnostic sniffer tube) that runs from the top/back/passengerside of engine, that was broken/rusted off down at the exhaust pipe. (near where the O2 sensor is located)

Just a few thoughts after several coctails..... Sorry If I'm not much help!
