Hi all, I have come across 2 seperate build diaries (both Japanese) that have the plastic rivets sanded off and replaced with insect pins. I understand what they are and can find a source on the net for them....but has anybody here used them and they come in several sizes so which one do I use (I have not found a source for them locally as of yet to compare the sizes) I think this is a cheaper way to go han buying Sakatsu rivets. Thanks.

Can you post a link to the mentioned build diaries?

You should consider the scaleracecars.com P/E fastener set, it comes with a ton of stuff and is really good value for what it contains in my opinion.

I agree with FRay...the SRC set can't be beat for the price...

No offense but I am looking for rivets and not fasteners. I see no rivets on the SRC sheets at all. I can get 100 insect pins for about $8.00 Cdn. The SRC stuff is $6.50 US plus shipping, plus customs, and tax (and anytime I look there is nothing in stock)

hueb_s here is one of the links TS020 build (http://www3.ocn.ne.jp/~works-s/ts020/diary-01.htm) You will need to translate it and I have to find the other link it was a month or so ago when I saw it.

Edit: I think it was here that I saw it kims house garage (http://kimshouse7015.com/)

My most humble apologies for my feeble attempt at being helpful.

For scale brass rivets and bolt heads try www.galtran.com. Click through to "Scale Nuts and Bolts".

Good point about the cost+shipping to Canada. Currently the CA Postal system SUCKS WRT N.A.

Instead of just hitting on the "insect pins" catchphrase, why not drop by a Hobby Lobby type business? In the sewing dept. they have a HUGE selection of all types of pins, inc. the type I THINK you're actually looking for (round head, used to attach the various Toyota GTOne's body panels). If not, then I have no idea what I'm talking about...;-)>

Of course, the actual car did NOT use rivets (as rivets are semi-permanent attchement devices and do not allow for the removal of body panels).

hth,
Bill
