turn signals not working

this is kinda like another post, but i am having a little different problem. the blinkers won't work at all on my 98 sunfire, the fuse and bulbs are good, and I tested the power in the steering column coming out of the "multi-function switch" and it's telling the blinkers to turn on. everything else works, emergency lights, tail lights, everything. the only thing else that doesn't work is a remote starter, but the previous owner said for some reason that never worked. any help appriciated, even my mechanic is a little stumped.
