Fujimi 1/24 Touge AE86 Levin

my convertible pickup levin is on the backburner for now. in the meanwhile i'm working on this fujimi touge series ae86 levin. still undecided as to what color i'm going to paint it but i was thinking either all white or all lavender seeing as the theme is "girl drifter" car. wheels are going to be craftsman/fujimi yayoi wheels, aka sakuras or cherry blossoms, which will be painted with gold centers. i threw other sets of rims on for the pics until they arrive. so far i've only modified the front lip to be more authentic - i cut the end parts that flare up and i'll be filling in the dip in the front with putty. interior features two race buckets and the roll bar and will have a "momo" steering wheel. sorry for the crappy pics, i was using my camera phone.

Great to see this progress because I've been working on my own Levin in for the past week. I really like the low offset rims.

my aoshima drift parts set finally arrived so i made a little more progress. i added the tach from the drift parts set to the dash and now it is ready for primer. the dash features a momo wheel from the older fujimi muffler tune set. the rest of the interior has been painted matt black and the door panels are waiting for a coat of lavender, to match the body color which i will be painting later (still waiting on putty :) ). the seats are also from the older fujimi muffler tune set.

my putty finally came in so i worked on modifying the lip to resemble an actual levin lip. the lip that comes with every fujimi ae86 kit is a trueno lip. took me several hours of sanding to get it just right (too much putty for first time he he). it's such a small detail but i'm ae86 crazy like that!! i think having owned one helps too :smile:

anyway here's more progress pics of the lip and comparison pics with my trueno lip. see if you can spot the differences :biggrin:

Nice stuff! Is it just me or is the Aoshima Drift Parts Set a bit cheap! Only 2 Steering wheels, 2 Seats, 1 Tach, and 2 sets of mirrors that don't fit any car that i have. :grinno: Nice progess on the lip and interior.

just started a new job and another quarter of school so i haven't had much time to work on the models. here's the latest on the progress of the levin - primered the body after putty mods, sprayed a couple base coats of silver, and now i've just sprayed the first coat of lavender. also pictured are the wheels i will be using for this build (just arrived from japan this morning!! :smile: :smile: :smile: ), yayoi wheels by craftsman/fujimi. good thing i bought two sets, they're meant for wide body models so i could only use the fronts. i painted the centers gold. these 1/24 scale versions are so much easier and cheaper to obtain than the real thing!!!

that's because if you try to obtain the real thing stateside it will cost you Money... j/k seriously though, if you come up on a set people want a lot of money for those because they're so rare. those rims are known as techno sakuras, aka cherry blossoms, because the spokes look like cherry blossoms. i only know of two sets stateside.

you know what's crazy is i actually found a set of 1/24 scale hoshinos. now i can make a replica of my own AE86. but, like, yours, they are meant for widebody so they are super duper deep dish.

That wheel and colour combo is perfect. Making me rethink painting my 86 white. Its very street drifter indeed. Cant wait to see it done.

sorry for the lack of updates. been super busy so i haven't had much time to work on the model. finally getting around to polishing the body. experimented on the roof tonite as it's my first time to try this. came out pretty well - i sanded it smooth using 2000 grit sand paper, then used 3m rubbing compound followed by meguiar's wax and here's the result:
