bumper questions

I just removed the bumper from my 96 Z to change the foglights and I noticed that under the bumper there's this big ass piece of plastic that look like teeth, and I was wondering if removing that shit would present any kind of problems? thanks in advance.

looks like teeth? well Ive never looked under the bumper of a 96Z..I can check when my gf gets off of work But the only big piece of plastic that comes to mind is the air damn for the rad? Is it right infront of the rad? If it is, your really gonna wanna leave that on..

But either way, if they put it there, im sure theres a reason for it

Your talking about the bumper shock asborber, It looks like white milk crates back there and is under the bumper cover. 2 things will happen from removing that. 1 your airbags will deploy under the 15 MPH inpact they are supposed to, 2. You will have more damage done to your front end (ie= Hood ,bumper cover, fender's) during a front end collision.
