bmw 740 ignition key programming

my bmw 740 key stopped working and i was told to disconnect the battery for 15 mins and it will reprogram the key!!!!!!!
tried this but didnt work is there anything else i can try?
can anybody help me please?

I do have the three button key, I have tried Bmw manual on how to reprogram your key still not working and its doing my head right in.
