Tamiya kit of the 300Z convertible. Gonna be a non-stock color (for the vert) pearl yellow. Lots of detail added with only a few real mods.

Light yellow base with the original kit wheels stripped of chrome.
They really look too small, even to be realistic and since one of the tires wondered off they had to go.
So, out with the old and in with the new!

That looks much better to me. The wheels fill the wheel wells better too.

The rear suspension still needs a bit of highlighting on bolt heads and such, but should be meeting the engine in the next few days.
Stay tuned!

Some engine bits...

Intake hoses were extended with solder and wrapped with detail wire to resemble the flexible portions of the hoses . Additional wiring and connector blocks were added around the fuse box for some visual interest.

Here's the engine in place, you can see the extended intake hoses, the bolt and hose clamp detail added to the throttle bodies, a power steering pump and hose, the battery got a decal and cables while the power brake booster may still get a vacuum line or two .

Good references are very helpful when you are trying to get the 'look' of the real engine. This is an old copy of Road & Track, I also use Google and E-bay motor adds for references.
More this weekend...

I get so much more done when my wife works all weekend...
Just finished up some engine detail and got the car on its wheels.

You can see the fuel filter on the upper right side.
Radiator cap and overflow were also added.

This is almost done as well, just need to add the transmission mount and do some touch-up.

Excellent!
The subtle weathering looks great! Are they just washes or dry-brushing too?

HA Ha ha....
It has been a very long pause on this one. With all the Z's on af now and a lull in my personal drama...
Anyone have some spare 'Z's for the centers of the 350 wheels?
or some extras of the Crazy Modeler Nissan/nismo foil transfers?

There is a reason the link to this in my signature is "The lost Z".
