Hey guys, i drive a 98 sl automatic and whenever im driving places i notice i try and make my car look like im driving a manual. I mean how sad is that, i guess its just sort of weird driving an auto 3000gt. I find myself at stoplights putting the car into neutral and rolling back and forth just for fun lol. And when i take off after hitting about 3000 rpms i'll let off and the punch it and my car will rock just like an automatic. Just felt like sharing and wondered if any of you other automatic drivers feel my pain. I've learned how to drive manual cars, but my dad didn't go for it cus my mom wouldn't be able to drive it. O well. I live with my AUTO 3000gt :)

i have a 2nd car that's auto. I barely ever drive it, but when I do, sometimes I manually take it from low gear, to 2nd, to drive, hehe

I found myself shifting into and out of 4WD and the lower gears and overdrive in the 4Runner so much that I knew I had to get a Manual 3000GT just too keep my ADHD hands busy lol.

LOL You guys are funny. Hehe I used to do that too when I was driving my red bucket but stopped because I heard it was bad for some part of the car (don't know if it's true or not). Anyways, my parents tried to use that "don't buy a manual 'cause mom can't drive it" but I wouldn't have it. No way was I gonna get Boo and have her be automatic. :nono:

what's with moms not being able to drive manuals? i mean really, wtf? my mom can drive a manual. however, she prefers not to drive the 3000gt, not because its a manual, but b/c its soo low to the ground, and you have to open the doors wide just to get in or out of the car. but really, "b/c someone can't drive a manual" is a cop-out answer. don't take crap like that. Just tell your mom (in a nice manner) to learn how to drive a manual...and you can throw in that her automatic sucks and manual is the way to go, muahaha

when my parents tried that crap on me I went out and broke the tranny on my auto DSM, TWICE! I just did neutral drops a couple of times untill that sucker broke, then my dad was like "sh*t! automatics suck ass, you should get a manual!" and I was like
"BOOYAAH"!

Lol. My mom knows how to drive a manual and I've tried to get her to drive my car (because apparently she's allways wanted to drive a sports car) but she won't! She won't even let me drive her minivan around when she's in it, apparently I give her whiplash lol.

Yea, well my case is sort different. My mom is sort of paranoid about driving and is even afraid to let me go anywhere like 40 mins away from the house. she has had like 4 close relatives die in car crashes so now she has a phobia for driving pretty much. Just think of how it was when i had my permit trying to learn how to drive. OMG OMG BRAKE like screaming. it was really annoying o well. I still love my car.

haha, my mom's gone through 4 auto transmitions on our minivan, and it's not b/c she pops it in neutral or w.e. for the rollbacks like a manual, see the thing is... she just sucks at driving, so I don't let her touch my car :-D. It sucks too cuz our 70 charger's an automatic Road and Track trans, and it's like... grr!

lol, i've got a little bit of everyone's stories combined. I had a automatic SL, and would use the shifter as if it were a manual. Did the neutral drops, and broke it. Didn't want automatic again, so switched it to manual to solve that problem. When I got my license my mom was all crazy too, SLOW DOWN!! "but mom i'm doing 25" I DONT CARE lol that sort of thing. And now she wants a sports car and was reving my engine up to 9 grand (literally) when I let her in it lol. Idk she's psycho too.

LMFAO...thanks
As far as the whole mom thing goes, explain to them that even if they can't drive manual, they should consider it a priveledge to ride in the car...my mom lost that priveledge when she continued to drink coffee in the car the first week I bought it. I told her to wait until we got home(2 freaking miles) as I still wasn't 100% comfortable with all the shifting, and I didn't want to jerk the car and have her spill. Well she ignored me and kept drinking...so now she isn't allowed in the car...period. I figured if I had just spent over 20 grand and would be paying this thing off for the next 5 years, I'll be darned if she leaves a stain or burn.

i don't know what's wrong with you guys, but if it were me i'd get the manual so my mom couldn't drive the car.
you guys really want (or even allow?!) your mothers to drive your cars?
i love my mom, but not enough to let her near my car (she really is an aweful driver...)

Funny, my car is under my mom's name, the insurance is her policy, and she's never sat in the driver's seat. ;)

Haha. Car: '93 bright red 3000 auto with subs, 18 in. rims, lowered, and I let my mom drive it! She asks ME if she can drive it (since I paid for it and the insurance)! I told her when she's sitting at stop lights to rev the engine in Neutral. LOL. Side note: I pull in my girlfriend's driveway and out comes her sister. She immediately is gushing over the car with her jaw dropped, "I love it. I love it!" You can't do that with a honda!
