offroading and flooded the engine

ok I got a 92 S-10 Blazer 4.3L Vin Z 4x4. I was out offroading this past weekend (everything on my vehicle is stock) and I flkew through this big puddle of water/sewage at a decent speed. I normally make it through but this time I amde it half way and everythign shut off and all my lgiths came on. The next day I ahd a friend pull it out and found out ym engine was locked up. I pulled the spark plugs cranked it a few times and blew a good bit of water out. then I put brand new spark plus in and tried starting it. it will not start. It keeps blowing water out of my exhaust from the puddle (I can tlel b/c it is the same consitensy and color and smell). I don't know where this water is coming from. The puddle was about 2 fete deep maybe more and it sat overnight so ym exhaust sysem was totally udnerwater before I pulled it out. My battery is low so I use a friends vehicle to give me enough juice to keep craking my engine. My problem is that it seems like it wants to start but it won't. Where may there be more water? how can I get it out? Any ideas whatsoever will help. I need to get this running in about 2 weeks.

Did you replace your oil & filter?
Did you replace the soaked air filter?
NEVER EVER RUN A ENGINE AFTER IT WAS SWAMPED WITHOUT REPLACING THE OIL AND FILTER!!!

my starter is fine it turns the engine and tries to start it. The engine just won't stay running. I do need to replace my oil yet but nothign changed on my dipstick the level did not change from before I went out So my thought is nothing got in the oil. I am not sure how I am gonna do anoil change in the parking lot here I have nothing to put the oil in after I drain it. at this point I put in an old air filter that is dry and not too clogged but I am even trying to start my engine without any filter at all. I know it isn't good but if I get it started I will put the filter in. I don't have a chance today to work on it until about 6 eastern time. I'll see if someone can take mt to get oil and help me change it.

good news I got it running on its own now :-). I changed the oil and ended up with about 6 quarts of crap......it was not the same color as oil.

Yea, you really needed to get the oil out of there and if I were you, I would fill the oil up to 3/4 with a new filter and idle it for 30 minutes and dump it again so you can flush everything out of the oil system.
It is crucial that you do that.
Changing the oil only gets what is in the pan and doesn't get what is trapped throuhout the oil sustem.
Failure to do so will guarantee you damage.
I'm really serious about this.

I ran it for awhile to charge my battery back up. My system should be clean I am thinkign of getting a coolant flush also to flush that system out. I have been driving around town a lot goign as fast as I can. It can now get back up to my highway speed of 90. I am happy that it runs and pleased with being able to save money. I am blowing white smoke right now but that is because I think I overfileld my oil (I usually do).

Simply Amazing. Let me guess, you live in the mountains and use duct tape to fix everything?
crazys182003
10-28-2004, 10:28 AM
well actually right now I am living in the mountains. And duct tape does come in very handy. What it comes down to though is money. Currently in college with about $30,000 in loans and all I don't exactly have everything I can put into my vehicle. If it runs I am happy.

hahaha, I'm in the same college debt right now. Where do you go? Penn State? I've been there and it's in the middle of nowhere. I have no Franklins either, but you have to sport the bucks to keep all the fluids clean and the filters good.

And blowing white smoke out of the tailpipe is running right?
No, it is called a blown headgasket.

no it is not my head gasket. I already had that checked. the white smoke is linked to extra oil in my engine. I overfileld it because I wasn't paying attention and now it is burning of the extra oil. I know because you can see the oil come out. It is almost at the level it should be at and isn't blowing smoke anymore and it isn't dripping as fast. I do noit go to Penn state but I go to a penn state affuiliate in williamsport. I just found out I got an extra 90 this week so this weekend is coolant flush time :-). slowly thigns will be flushed and changed but until i get the money it is on the back burner.

Don't even start explaining what you are doing because you don't have a clue what you are talking about.
1.) First, you flood your engine and then try to start it without changing the oil or replacing the filter.
2.) Then you finally change without flushing and then go driving around like a madman seemingly thinking you are doing something good for your engine.
3.) Then you state that you don't even have the attention span to properly fill your oil up properly and you overfill it and drive around trying to force it to burn off.
4.) Oil burning is blue not white so don't think you are burning off your oil because you are not.
Throughout all you posts you have proven to everyone that you are about as clueless and careless as anyone could possibly be and as you see, you are being laughed at over you complete stupidity.
Do yourself a favor and stop posting because you are just making yourself out to be more of an idiot with every word typed.

Mr. Nice guy. He will find out soon enough what it is. We all know that it is a blown head gasket. There is no need to throw in extra efforts to make him feel like an "idiot".

do you really think I care? If I did I would have stopped checking this afetr I got it running because the whole reason I started was to get my vehicle running. I am not an auto mechanic nor do i want to be one. All I care about is that it runs and gets me from poiunt A to point B.

Speaking of Canada, I drove through Ontario to go back to Rochester NY (where I'm from) this weekend and I almost got killed by a crazy truck driver. We were going East into Hamilton (down the mountainside on 403 right before Aberdeen Avenue). This semi had been dumping diesel fuel down the road for like 10 miles (I could smell it really strong), turning the already wet asphalt into a gigantic oilslick. He fishtailed and crashed into the side of the mountain, and I was right behind him. I had no traction and ABS (and my new rotors-thanks you guys) saved my life. I just bairly missed his tanker, but since the road was all slick there was a 30 car pileup behind me, and probably more up the highway. I talked to the truck driver that almost killed everyone (as he was smoking a cigarette standing in a puddle of diesel) and he said "Aw, I needed a new truck anyways." HAHAHA Canadians. what else can I say?

Sorry, I was just pokin fun. Canadians are the friendliest people in the world. I go through your country frequently, and whenever I stop a Canadian always asks me where I'm from and how I'm doing. This type of friendliness NEVER happens in the states, people just keep to themselves (or are scared to look at somebody). It kinda gives you a new outlook on life, or it at least kinda makes you smile for a bit.
I was listening to NPR in Canada and they were having debates over who should be president of the U.S. It's funny how all of our drama is news there, but we have no idea who the Prime Minister of Canada is. Who do you think is going to win tomorrow eh?

I merely stated an opinion as to forum content and by YOUR own standards, I earned my right to more than speak about MY country by the oath I took in front of the flag and swinging from the side of a Huey with a 50 caliber before you were even a gleam in your Daddy's eye. In case you're not aware of it but this forum is for Blazer's, if you wish to discuss off topics, start a new thread that is off topic.

Gentlemen. Excellent work. When I saw this thread had resurfaced, I couldn't have possibly imagined the exciting drama that has continued.
Mikado14, you're an American (actually, you live near me)...Blazer LT, your Canadian...but here in the forum, that shouldn't matter because we all share a common bond...we are Blazer owners. We are forced to set aside our differences and come together to battle our adversaries. Our enemies are not each other, but that clogged heater core, shot fuel pump, or bad ground. I can't think of any other members of this board that I see sacrificing their time to assist more people in need than the two of you. I hope that you will one day bury the hatchet because, at the end of the day, you're both soliders fighting for the same side...and this crazy war of automotive problems that we call the Blazer forum would be much better fought with you united, rather than divided.
God Bless

My god. If youre so worried about it running and you cant afford a new car why do you drive it through a pond? 2nd Why would you leave your car overnight there sitting in swamp? 3rd I thought me driving around for 2 days with a Check Engine Light was beyond retarded. 4th Normal Highway speeds at 90 mph? 5th I can see ignorance somewhat of people not knowing certain things, but i really cant believe you. 6th Im a firm believer in duct tape, but duct tape doesnt work at 90mph
Side Note. Finally I got my Transmission rebuilt if you remember my solenoid problem. It was an internal thing that was impossible to get at. They took it out 8 guys Totally took everything apart put new solenoids, fluid, checked gears cleaned everything out and put it back in and yes this is a 4x4 4.3l in under 2 days. Get this It was 995.83$ so this just as a side note, there are good transmission shops out there, its never run as good as it has been since i got it back. Thanks BlazerLT for your help, youre an awesome resource and your time didnt go to waste with me.
