Damn Headers

Ok so I got the 4-1 header installed by a shop finally on my 2000 GSR. Everything is bolted down nice and tight. We start it up it idles fine. Give it some gas and there is this vibration sound in the background. I can't figure out wtf it is and it's pissing me off. The guy at the shop said it might be the cat's heatshield vibrating or something with the cat. When im driving and I accelerate (not even that hard) there is this dumb vibrating noise. Has anyone had this same problem or know of anything it might be? By the way...a 4-1 one piece header is a complete bitch to install. thanks guys.

u took ur car to a shop to get a 4-1 header installed? install n any header is pretty simple. Look under the car, check to see if the mechanic bolted the bracket thats on the bottom of the header tothe chassis of the car. also check the heat shield on the cat. it could be loose as well. u only installed a header right? did u install an aftermarket exhaust at the same time or have one in ur car right now? Jack up ur car and look through the whole exhaust system. usaully that noise is coming from the exhaust hit n the heat shield. just bend the heat shield where u think it's hitting

damn i got a similar sound coming from my exhaust. i ripped out all the heat shield and it is still there. i have a 4-2-1 header on my teg. a little hissing kinda vibrating sound. only when i give it alittle gas. and then goes away when i am at a steady pace. i think it might be the cat back? maybe the resonator? it sounds as if it is coming from somewhere around the dead center of my car. its getting really hard to exactly pin point

This vibration is loud as shit...yeah the 4-1 header on a GSR isn't all that easy to install. We had to unbolt the radiator and the slave master cylinder to fit it up there and there is no way I could have gotten to all the bolts with just jack stands. I took it to the shop again today to see what the sound was and he thinks it's the header rubbing against the oil pan...the heat shields are all fine and havn't been touched. The bolts are on tight as they can be. He got under the car while I revved it and it sounded like it was comming right from where it passes the oil pan. It's really snug up against it so he said to call Tsudo and if they have nothing then he can move the oil pan up slightly. Who knows. I just hope it gets fixed cuz it sounds awful and my car sounded beautiful before.

i wonder if they use double layer piping in that header? i know in the stock one's i had before it was double layer piping and had to weld thepipes together. but ended up getting the stainless steel header cause it kept breaking the welds.

Let me guess. the vibration sounds like it is coming from about underneath the shifter... and is loudest at around 2000 rpm? If so i kno what it is, its fixable and its nothin to worry about. Let me kno if these are the same symptoms.

By the way dont take off ur heat shield, i had a horrible vibration just like that, it wasnt the heat sheild i took that shit off and was like ahhh finally the vibration will be gone... took it around the block and the vibration was still there. The vibration is coming from the exhaust not the header... It only vibrates at certain RPMS which has somethin to do with its resonating frequency... beyond the scope of this post... Now the exhaust flowing through it allows it to vibrate. Your catback is in 3 sections. Look where the middle section bolts up to the last section (with the muffler on it) There is a hook right there that is holding the cat up underneath the car. Tsudo unfortunately made it so the hook comes up from the middle part of the piping, afixes to the car, then comes back down and touches the fucking exhaust on the 3rd section. You need to bend that away, it will fix the vibration. Have fun bending it though its HELLLLLLLLLLA hard to bend it, and cutting it lol... yea right. I was able to bend it just enough to get the vibration to stop.

gsr916 are u talking about the stock exhaust? Cuz I don't have a TSUDO cat back. I have custom piping from the cat-back leading to an ANSA axle back muffler which fits perfectly. I just have the tsudo 4-1 header.

oh wtf i thought u said u had tsudo catback. yea i still wouldnt be surprised if it was one of ur hangers, or what boosted said...the flange on the header down by where the cat is might not be bolted all the way.

hmm, but what gsr916 said sounds like i might need to do that. b/c greddy did not put a hanger on the catback by my back passenger tire. i will try this tomorrow. damn this sound gets anoying around 2,300 rpm's and then just goes away as the rpm's get higher.but i also did think it had something to do with the sound gong through the exhaust. i'll get back.

My greddy did the same thing. It took a couple of hours to figure out what it was. Turns out one of the hangers was touching a peice of metal under the car. Check and make sure nothing is touching the headers. If something is even close, it could be it. I just zip tied a small peice of hose to the hanger and fixed it. every couple of months it rubs through the rubber and I change it out, but no big deal.

Through the Tsudo in the garbage where it belongs and buy quality parts.(p.s. put down the APC and slowly step away)

the only APC product I own are the two bulbs in my headlights thank you. P.S. Did I ever say anything about owning anything APC?
