Front end noise in turn

Hey out there,

Just bought a 2002 Yukon SLT with autoride. I'm hearing a clunking sound while in a turn and can feel it in the steering wheel. I had the dealer check out the suspension, shocks,pitman,idler, balljoints etc... and he says nothing is loose. I've heard there have been problems with steerings intermediary link. Can anybody shed some light on this and what actions I should take. Thanks

GM is no longer doing the lube kit fix; instead they will just replace the steering wheel intermediate shaft or something along those lines--I forgot the name of the exact part they replaced but that's what they did on my truck ('03). I asked them if they were doing this instead of the more common lube kit fix and they said yes because there were too many people still coming back even after they lubed the shaft.

I dunno if GM is doing this to the earlier model-year NBS trucks (e.g., 2000-2002) but I think since the problem has existed even as far back as then, I can't see why they wouldn't...

I definitely recommend calling your dealer and chastising the service writer for neglecting to keep up with his TSB's. You should be in and out in less than an hour, but the reason I recommen calling first is that - according to my dealer - they can't keep the parts in stock. They estimate that 75% of the '99-'03 (NBS in the case of the SUV's) trucks have this problem, and the lube fix is only temporary. GOod luck - please keep us posted.

Thanks for all your replies. Before I had a chance to read them I had taken my truck to the dealer asking for another look at it. They said they found a grease point on the left steering conrol arm that was a bit dry. They lubed it up and said that fixed the problem. When I drove it home it was o.k. for the first 10 minutes and then back to the way it was. I'm going back to the dealer this weekend in not a very pleasant mood!!! I hope this intermediate shaft is the problem and I'm not barking up the wrong tree. I'll keep you informed.
